Asking for a PG friend, who is looking to save money and doesn't want to buy the infant carseat if you only get 6 months out of it anyway (she is measuring big and all the babies in her family were close to 10 lbs at birth).
If so, how did it work out?
I have no experience bc I loved my infant car seat & Snap & Go but she wants to avoid getting as many extra baby items as possible.

It probably depends on the carseat. We got the Britax Blvd. and I wouldn't want a newborn in that--there really isn't enough head support even with the infant insert IMO.
I believe someone recommends the infant carseats for newborns for this very reason, but I cannot remember the authority. It may have been the Natl. Highway Safety Assoc., not sure.

They can have a DC that's at least 5lbs. As long as DC fit in the seat, the only real benefit of the infant carrier is that you can bring the baby in and out of the car without waking them up.
If DC doesn't fit properly, then it isn't safe, but as long as they fit the convertible seat, it's just as safe as an infant seat.

My hospital would not release my DC without an infant carrier. She should check withher hospital first to ensure whe will not have an issue. Also, I am sure there are plenty of ladies on here who are done with theirs that would be willing to loan/sell at a discount theirs
