Did anyone see the article in yesterday's Newsday?
It discussed how teachers' salaries should be looked at as the average salary increase per year is 6%-6.5%? I've been teaching for 10 years and never had that big of a raise. So I was wondering if anyone gets that amount? Or is there a place I can check district's pay increases? That article pi$$ed me off while the next article mentioned that the district I live in has 30 administrators makiing more than $100,000. Newsday is so biased.

That article irked me, too!
Newsday is historically anti-teacher! I have never gotten such a raise- MAYBE when I moved a step AND got my +60. If they expect teachers to have a masters and all this extra training it should offer competitive salaries
Made me so mad! No doubt written by someone who hasn't been in a classroom in years!

The NY Post is also anti-teacher. Very annoying.

In the past ten years I have no received one raise that has even matched the level of inflation.
I'm actually worse off than when I started. I had to get +60 just to keep up.

We haven't gotten a cost of living raise at my school in 4 or 5 years. Last year we got 2.5%

This article was the talk around school today. I agree that it was pretty far off on teacher raises. I think we should all write letters to Newsday and bombard them with how inaccurate they are!

Re: Did anyone see the article in yesterday's Newsday?
Remember the perspective that Newsday is taking..as pp said, they are slanting it as anti teacher.
Raises can "look" high because they are looking at salary schedules combined with yearly increases.
It is all about perspective...this coming off of very tricky contract negotiations, I have seen it for the past year. It can get ugly.

Highest raise I have gotten in 12 years has been 3.5% except when I was moving over and up.

Re: Did anyone see the article in yesterday's Newsday?
I work for the second highest paid district in Nassau and our raise was like 4.75 and we thought that was huge! Who the heck gets 6%?
