It was about hormones I thoughtChat Icon

So that the cows can produce almost 50% more than their natural milk supply....

Re: Did anyone see the news about the antibiotics in milk?

I thought it was old news that antibiotics and horomones are in regular milk (and in meat).

Did they uncover something new about it?

Re: Did anyone see the news about the antibiotics in milk?

Everyone concedes that milk cows are given antibiotics and hormones to keep them healthy, and to boost their milk supplies.

The question is whether these are harmful to humans. As for antibiotics, the real concern is whether certain viruses and illnesses are growing more and more resistant to antibiotics, thereby making them ineffective, because we are ingesting so many antibiotics through milk products. The theory being, that if you have too many antibiotics, the viruses mutate and grow resistant.

The FDA insists there are no concerns with humans ingesting products from cows that are treated with antibiotics and hormones.

I, however, have my doubts Chat Icon

I have been buying Organic too. This just scares me so much. I have not given Andrew milk yet. I am waiting for awhile and then will only give him Organic. I decided to give him Next Step Toddler Formula instead. I am so glad I made that decision.

ditto

thats why we drink organic milk

Part of the reason they have to give the cows antibiotics is because they give them so many hormones to produce more milk than they are supposed to which causes them to get Mastitis Chat Icon

We always get Farmland milk - no hormones and no antibiotics (not organic though). Same price as regular milk.

This is not new news. This is why I only give DD organic milk and dairy unless we are away from home. It's in all meats too.

Re: Did anyone see the news about the antibiotics in milk?

There are lots of studies that have shown the type of obesity american kids have now is related to the hormones in our food supply.
They have done many studies that highlight the "jelly roll" as I call it on young kids. Many of them are not fat everywhere just around their lower abdomen. There is a connection, especially with girls & the types of hormones that are feed to our meat supply. It indicates that it causes adolescent girls to store fat in that area.
Combined with the lack of exercise that kids get today, we are raising a country of fat people.
The FDA WILL hide/cover up/lie about this info.
Just like they will lie about the antibiotics affecting us. About 30 years ago the FDA decided antibiotics that are used on HUMANS can no longer be used on livestock, however they are running out of drugs that work on the animals & many of the drugs they use now are "crossovers" to common human antibiotics.
This is a crying shame, and new unstoppable superbugs are being born as we speak.
Then there is the issue of "run off".
All of the fertilizers, hormones & antibiotics on the farms are running off into rivers, streams & lakes & affecting other wildlife AND our water supply.
We have to take some responsibility for our own nutrition & realize the government does NOT have our best/heathliest interests in mind.
