Did anyone take a infant/child on a cruise that was not fully vaccinated?
I am throwing around ideas for our 5 yr. anniversary. I wanted to do something alone but I dont want to leave my kids for more than 3 nights Now I am thinking a cruise as a family. TJ is up to date on all his shots. Derek is not. He would not have his MMR shot.
Did anyone take a cruise with an infant or child not fully vaccinated? Is it a bad idea?

We had DS get the MMR prior to us leaving on a cruise because the Ped recommended it. I would have held off if we didn't have the trip booked. I know this is a huge debate on here with the MMR... but for me I'm glad we got it out of the way prior to taking such a big trip.

IMO...No... You are on a ship with too many people and kids from other countries. It is too risky IMO. When I was little and we traveled to England, my pedi highly recommended that I was up to date on my vaccines. I wasn't in school yet... Talk to your pedi and see what they say...

This is what I was thinking as well. But I know so many people that take infants on cruises. But I guess they mostly stay in strollers and aren't as susceptible to catching something. DS will be 20 months but I really want to hold off on the MMR.

I wouldn't.
I would be especially wary of traveling to countries where vaccinations aren't common.

DS will be 13 months and NOT fully vacinated when we go. I think he pretty much would need MMR. Dr didnt have any objections to us going (fl and bahamas) when I asked him.

I never thought about it... DS will be 9 months old... and no MMR yet.
So: yes: I will be taking my DC on a cruise in the Carribean without MMR. He will have everything else.

Nope.
I made sure Tyler had the MMR before we left - and my ped also agreed with me.

I wouldn't do it. I actually had to get Hep A for Ale when we went to Spain. My ped. insisted on it. She definitely had her MMR and all other shots up to date.
I think it is too risky and I doubt your pediatrician, even if s/he is flexible on vaccines, would approve of travelling without up to date shots.

ETA: come to think of it....we got her flu shot a week before we left to gfo and I remember being nervous about that. She was totally fine.

Re: Did anyone take a infant/child on a cruise that was not fully vaccinated?
As long as the child has had all of the shots they are supposed to have by their specific age, I see no problem with it. Otherwise, you wouldn't take a vacation until they are older.
We brought DS to Jamaica when he was 9 months old, and the doctor said "Have a great time."
We will be taking DD on a cruise, and she will have all the shots that are scheduled for her age by then.

Re: Did anyone take a infant/child on a cruise that was not fully vaccinated?
We were thinking about doing a cruise this spring but my ped was hesitant about any international travel especially a cruise because of close quarters since dd would not be fully vaccinated. We decided against it. I doubt anything would happen but I wouldn't do it.
