Sarah said MaMa starting at 5 months. Then nothing new for a long time. But it was definately directed at me, other people would notice that she'd say it when I walked in the room.

Andy on the other hand still barely says much beyond MaMa and DaDa. I don't think he said those until almost a year old.

DS also says mama now but doesnt know who or what it is...and the only reason he says it is b/c literally when he was born he came out screaming MAAAAA, and has continues to say it when crying or babbling, so i guess he already had the sound.
However, he doesnt imitate dada, baba, but hes so young, only 4 months old and i dont expect any real words for a very long while. Also i haven't known any 6 months olds that talk either.Chat Icon

Re: Did ANYONE'S baby start TALKING at 6 months?

sorry you have to deal with that woman..... Chat Icon some are just like that, thats all.... for some reason, it always seems to be a competeion, and my philosophy on that is----they really all end up on the same page by the time they are 3, so why even compare??

i might have been offended by what she said, and then maybe just told her "what does it matter anyway when my child is better looking than yours?" Chat Icon Chat Icon or something....

here is H at 6 months "REALLY" talking.....look at what she was calling "dada"

Re: Did ANYONE'S baby start TALKING at 6 months?

My DD started saying Ma and Da, Hi and Bye at like 9 months, and I thought that that was pretty early.

I think your co-worker is full of poo.

Re: Did ANYONE'S baby start TALKING at 6 months?

ugh, I hate those moms.

I'm sorry, but I don't consider "dada" or "mama" a first word when they don't associate the word with the parent! Emily's first real word was "hi" but she actually meant it and she was about 3x that age Chat Icon

I think it's just about impossible to start speaking (really communicating I mean) at that young age.

If you consider these words....

mamamamamamamamamama

papapapapapappapapap

babababababababa

Then, yes he is speaking at 1 week shy of 6 mos.

I can tell you, he has NO clue what he is "saying"

Ainsley is 6 months old and knows how to parallel park, clean the litter box, and makes the perfect martini for mamma at night - what, your 6 month old can't do that?

I honestly think they sometimes completely forget. That's why I try to write as much as I remember at the time in her baby book because I don't want to be "one of those moms".Chat Icon

Re: Did ANYONE'S baby start TALKING at 6 months?

at first I thought you were going to say your does and I was thinking "yeah right". Sorry you have to deal with someone like that. I guess maybe they can babble things that sound like words but the baby probably doesn't know what they're saying. But just sounds like in her case she is full of you know what.
