I wonder about these reports sometimes and the definitions of 'obese'.
My gf's husband is a weight lifter and is amazingly fit. Dedicated to a life of eating healthfully and working out. He is - according to the insurance charts - obese. She herself is a very curvy girl. She's overweight for sure.. but charts designate her as 'obese' - and she certainly is not.
Me? I'm one of those folks that is going to drain Medicare if I don't get on the stick.

Yes, the BMI charts are SO flawed because they dont' take into consideration body fat %. Lean muscle is much denser than fat. Hence why the weight lifter who is all solid muscle weighs more and is considered obese. I look at those charts and what they want my husband to weigh for his height would make him emaciated... and what they want me to weigh for my height- I would look grossly overweight at that weight. I think they need to start taking body fat % into account...

oh, I agree with both of you.
based on my (non preggo( weight and height, there is almost a 2% difference when I look at the chart vs. when I have my BMI tested with calipers and with this other contraption they had at the gym.
but there is still a huge (no pun intended) epidemic of obesity-related medical issues...and all signs point to that not going anywhere but up any time soon.
