Did you fall in love at first sight...
with your first baby?
I did not, for sure. We had to get to know one another! I remember thinking when I "met" her..."Who is this stranger? I don't know you!!" It wasn't at all like we'd known one another since the beginning of time like I guess I imagined it. The whole experience was quite surreal. I read birth stories on here and time after time women write that they had never known love, etc. before giving birth. I know we're all different, but sometimes I wonder if I'm missing that gene!!

Re: Did you fall in love at first sight...
Nope...not love at first sight...like at first site was more like it. Plus it was all so overwhelming. He was a total stranger to me and I am sure it was the same for him. But very quickly my love for him grew and it is completely unconditional. I love him with every ounce of my being and there is nothing I wouldn't do for him.
So, no - not at first sight but not too long after.

Re: Did you fall in love at first sight...
OMGosh YES! As soon as the nurse brought him over to me, I couldn't stop kissing his little cheek. I said "I love you" a zillion times. Even IN the belly, I'd rub my belly every kick, turn, punch, and say "I love you".

Re: Did you fall in love at first sight...
For me it was love at first sight. I remember looking at DH crying and whispering, I LOVE him, I just LOVE him.
My friend felt the same as you though, she said it took her alittle while to fall in love with her DS, she felt like he was a stranger at first.
I think either way makes sense really.

Re: Did you fall in love at first sight...
Yes, definitely. But that love was also compounded by these feelings, all at once:
1. wow, I actually gave BIRTH? 2. wow, she's what's been growing inside me for 9 months? 3. what do I do now? she's all mine?
I was definitely feeling very overwhelmed, but in love too

Re: Did you fall in love at first sight...
Well considering the first thing I said when they laid her on my belly was "ew, she's gross"...I'd say no - she was so full of "stuff" - it really grossed me out. Otherwise, I was just totally overwhelmed with emotions.

Re: Did you fall in love at first sight...
I was definitely "in awe at first site". Admittedly though, I went through a very rough 1st couple of months with her, so that played a huge role in my feelings.
Now...OMG I can't believe how much I am in love

Re: Did you fall in love at first sight...
I did not! I remember thinking the same, who is this stranger, why are you always crying. I thought for 9 months I carried her I would have some sourt of tie, but I didn't. I actually cried over it a lot, because like you I immagined love at first sight, and than.. there was this baby that cried all the time. Its one thing that it was inside of me, its another holding her in my arms.
I definitely fell in love as we got to know one another. In fact, I was thinking of posting this to the PG board, because I wanted to let mommies know that its normal, it happens, and you DO fall in love. I felt guilty and cried over it all the time, it would of been nice if I'd known in advance. I think with PG, we have an idealized immagine for what its like to be a mommy, and in reality its very different.

not at all......the love grows everyday...by 3 months I was completely obsessed! I took him on the train for the first time on Sunday and I started crying after I sawa the look of amazement in his eyes! My husband thought I was nuts!
I remember everyone around me being really excited and I was just like "okay"

Re: Did you fall in love at first sight...
Well it took a few hours....I was drugged & confused & thought there was something wrong w/ her so I was worried when they whisked her to the NICU. I didn't even get to hold her until the next day...but from that point on, after I got over the "being afraid" to break her part, I was head over heels in love.

I felt the same
I felt the same way initially. My delivery was so quick and a little early so I was so overwhelmed and in shock for probably the first few days. But I def. can't imagine life without him now - 2wks later. I felt so much better when my SIL told me it wasn't love at first sight for her either - I didn't feel like a mean mommy anymore.
