did you get your wedding band appraised? insured? UPDATED below

I'm thinking I'd like to get my wedding band appraised/insured, but I'm torn about whether it's worth the $$$. (my engagement ring is appraised/insured)

I'd like to get it appraised to make sure it is what we were told it is, and to get an idea of the value (because I think we got a pretty good deal on it) but I don't want to spend tons of $$$ doing so

I called the place where DH got my engagement ring and they don't do appraisals because they think its a conflict of interest for a jewelry store to also give appraisals and referred me to an independent appraiser who charges $100-150. I'd rather not spend that much... I called a jewelry store near my office and they charge a % of the appraised value of the item, which seems really sketchy to me in principle.

I dont know what to do...

No, only my ering is insured. If we paid more for my wedding band then I'd get it insured.

ETS: I think you should focus on God forbid something happened to it, would you be willing to shell out all that money for a new one.

I have not had my wedding band appraised or insured. My e-ring is insured.

My wedding band is a cheap ugly piece of plain gold.
I hate it and haven't worn it in SO long because I feel it takes away from the beauty of my E-ring.

So no, I never thought to insure it.

If it was something nice and had some value to it- then I would consider insuring it.
It would depend how much it cost.

Yes, we had them both done at the same time. My e-ring was my grandmothers so it didn't cost DH any money but we have no idea what it would appraise for. My wedding band on the other hand cost over $3K and we wanted to be covered for it.

I think my wedding band was around 1600...It isn't insured. My E ring is.

I had both rings appraised and insured.
Macy's Herald Square does very good appraisals.

Both my e-ring and wedding band are insured. We have a separate policy in addition to our renters insurance for them. My wedding band was only like $1300, but it wasn't much more per month to add it to our policy for my e-ring.

I went to Flea market and had one of them, jewelers appraise it for $25.

yes, I have a blanket policy for all of my unappraised jewlery, then separate policies for my appraised.

i have a seperate policy for my ering and wedding band and i also added DH wedding band on there too since it did not increase the price too much. i totally think it is so worth it. one of my good friends lost her ering and they replaced it within two weeks!

Yes both my e-ring and wedding band are insured. My plain gold wedding is not.

I think DW's engagement ring was about $250 (no diamonds, obviously), and her band was even less, so no.... they aren't insured....

My wedding band is a 2mm yellow gold $50 ring so my answer is no. But if your ring is over $1500 I would get it insured.

i went today and got my ring appraised at an independent appraiser.

i went to the diamond dist and found 2 types of places:

1. those that refused to do appraisals bc they sold jewelry and felt it was a conflict of interest. they referred me to 2 different independent appraisers in the area

2. those that offers to do verbal appraisals only (and were super sketchy!)

i'm glad i went - turns out everything was legit with my ring (platinum + great quality diamonds) and it appraised for 2.5x what we paid. the appraiser was really impressed by the deal i got so i feel awesome

going to get a quote for insuring it and then decide... thanks everyone

I havent, just havent gotten arond to it, but I really want to! And i want to appraise my grandmothers wedding band just for insurance purposes.

I got my e-ring appraised at jewelry judge they are on old country rd. They were great. I think it was $150 or a little less for the appraisal, but i think it is really worrth it. Everything is done in front of you and you get all your paperwork then and there.

It wasnt much money at all to insure my e-ring. It is a one time a year payment (i use jewelers mutual).

I say do it. I need to as well!

nope, only my e-ring cause the homeowners has a certain blanket amount and my jewelery doesnt go over it.

my wedding band isnt insured yet bc its sitting in a safe til we;re married but once im wearing it everyday it will be insured. it was kinda $$.

but i have the appraisal all ready to go to the insurance co to ad to my ering policy.
