Did you have a "goal" that you wanted to reach before TTC??

Financial, personal or even just living situations? My DH and I are trying to get some things in order before we start TTC (hopefully by spring). We want to get a lot of our credit cards down and we want to get our house in order to - we just moved in 2 months ago. My sister thinks I'm crazy for "preparing for TTC". But I feel like there are certain things we want done before we get pregnant. I guess I was just wondering if you ladies had certain things you wanted to do before you started TTC and if you got to that place? Thanks!

Personally I think it's hard to "be ready" to have a baby. I am not sure anyone is ever really ready especially financially, but what i do think is that it's great that since you aren't trying just yet that you are working on credit cards and stuff. We aren't activily trying either but I would like to do everything I can get done financially before we do. but it wouldn't stop me when I'm ready...

Not really.

We started a "baby fund" when we started TTC (boy, that has had some time to grow!)

We're still living in an apartment, paying off credit cards and student loans - but we are financially responsible and completely ready to have a baby.

we were trying to set our goal financially..being that i will be a SAHM ... i got PG and that when out the window....and now we are still trying..so its not an issue anymore..

I wanted us to be car payment free - which we accomplished this year.

I wanted to save more $$ this year than I did. Now that it's almost November I'm mad at myself it didn't happen.

I plan on taking the next 2 months cleaning up any cc debt and stashing $$ come January.


Oh and I've lost 16 lbs since my miscarriage. woo hoo!!!

I wanted to meet the right person. I did with DH. I also waited to be in my last trimester in school.

We wanted to be in a house and we were (just 2 months before she was born, but we got there).

For is it was having a house and doing at least a year of payments before a baby. Our first was born a year and a half after we bought our house. Now as we are trying for our 3rd I like to have 9months to a year s worth of living expenses saved in case one of us lose a job or something happens.

I am glad to hear that some other girls have a "plan" before TTC, lol. Most of the time people think I am crazy. My sister's favorite advice "just do it and you'll figure it out later". I just can't be like that - I have to KNOW we will be able to take on everything before I do it..

Absolutely want to finish law school (I graduate in May) and ideally have a few years of full-time work under my belt first.

It would be nice to own a house.

I wanted to get half way through graduate school before we started ttc but that wont happen. I figured if i have a baby while i was in school i would probably add on an additional year until i finish. Thats ok with me, Im not in a rush.

For us it was to own a home. We just bought in May.

I wanted to get a promotion at work that I have been working hard for years to get. I am told I will get it the end of this year or mid next year. I am not waiting for it anymore.

We didn't really have any goals before TTC. Well maybe one. DH wanted to be almost done with his CPA exam. Now he only has 1 more part to pass. Other than that, like a PP stated, i don't think you are ever really financially ready to have a baby. We are living in a 1 bedroom apt, and in the process of looking for a house. Financially we will be strapped once we have a house and a baby, but we will make it work.

DH and I are not TTCing yet, but I lurk anyway. I want to finish my masters degree and be more financially secure. I know we will never be well off, but i'd like to have a house first or more money saved for one before we TTC.

we aren't TTC yet either but we definitely have some "goals" we want to achieve first. the biggest (and most overwhelming) is that i need to lose a significant amount of weight. i have no problem being "plus size" and pregnant but right now i am at my highest weight and i don't even feel comfortable carrying my own weight around so if we added a baby into that mix, sadly i think i'd have some serious health problems

beyond that, we too are trying to pay down credit card debt and be in a better place financially. i believe we will make it work when we are blessed enough to have a baby but it would be nice to not have to worry about money!! :)

We bought a house before we TTC that was the first goal for us. Our goal now is to eliminate as much debt as possible. And for myself, to lose at least 15 pounds... it's been rough to do that!

We aren't actively trying yet either because we would like to do everything we can get done financially before we do. Having a baby is life changing so anything we can do to make it smoother will help. we just bought a house in March and hopefully by next spring we will have paid off a bunch of bills then we will actively TTC and save $$$ at the same time.

My goal is to get a new job & try to save as much of that salary as possible for baby necessities. We have a savings but that is for a rainy day.. now I want a baby savings. We started trying this summer but will put it off until spring 09.. april or may.

For me it was to be set in a job that would be ideal for having children. After having my schedule at my old newspaper job switched to night shift, I quit. I started working with my mom, who owned a dance studio- I danced my whole life. I realized that even though I never really thought I wanted to be a dance teacher for life, it was really the perfect job for me. I only work 9 months a year, for about 13 hours a week. I make great money for the hours I work, and I am able to be with DS the vast majority of the time. We started TTC the second year I was teaching with my mom, the year she was going to retire. I took over the school on my own at 8 months pregnant.

I wanted to lose 30 lbs but that didnt happen yet...
