Did you have to cut the nipple a bit for rice cereal added to formula

The variable nipple is not working even with a small amount of rice cereal to the formula. Do you think its ok if I cut it a little bit just to allow some flow but not enough where she will choke. Has anyone else had to do this?

Can you use a pin to make the hole larger?

I use the Dr. Brown bottles and if I add alot of rice I use the x nipple. When DS was younger and I added only 1tbs I used the reg. nipple and I made the whole a bit bigger w/ something sharp.

Ok I just stuck a pin hole in a fast nipple and a tri-cut nipple. I am boiling them now and than will test them. I'll let you know if it works.

Could they not be working b/c the formula is getting to thick? My dr. said 5 oz. formula & 2 tsp. cereal. Is that what you all started at?

what variable nipple are you using? I used the avent variable nipples and had no problem with the cereal in the bottle. I think you may be making it too thick, which may not be good for them to drink.

I tried both the variable nipple and fast nipple. I experimented with a 4 oz. bottle and added less than a teaspoon and nothing came out of either one. I tried using a pin to poke a hole and nothing. I'd hate to switch bottles because she is so used to the playtex.

I was giving DD 1 tbsp of cereal in a 6 oz bottle with the fast flow on the drop-ins and I didn't have any problems. I did however have an issue with one of the slow ones - but that was before we even added the cereal - I think that something was just wrong with it.
