Just curious. Not looking yet, but I LOVE Tudor style homes. Can you do a MLSLI search by house type? I'm hoping to move to NY after grad school, so occasionally to keep myself motivated I do searches, lol.

Nope, I felt like I didn't want to limit myself. In the back of my head, I had always dreamed of owning a colonial, but I was more than willing to buy a ranch or cape or whatever if I liked it. Ultimately, we ended up with a colonial, but that was just luckChat Icon

Re: Did you have your heart set on a certain architectural style when house hunting?

yes.

we had a dream to own a particular home.

we would not have bought anything that didn't in some way reflect our vision.

I wouldn't even look at a home that wasn't of a certain age and/or a certain frame/style.

I did for the most part. I wanted a colonial and that is what I ended up with Chat Icon

I did not limit myself from only looking at Colonial homes, but I did tell the Real Estate Agent this is what we prefer.

i knew i wanted either a colonial or older victorian with 4bdrms, a fireplace, attached garage, basement and at least .50 acres. bought a colonial with all of the above on 1.2 acres.

Yes and I ended up falling in love with a type of house I never had any desire to live in.

We really liked a certain style split level and that is what we ended up with.

I don't think you can do a search by house type... I also loved tudors. Unfortunately for us they were in neighborhoods that were out of our price range.

East Williston
Roslyn
Garden City
Merrick

Maybe you can start by searching in those towns?

I had a preference, but location & property were most important to us.

I think ultimately we wanted a center hall colonial although we saw several other different styles that we liked as well. We wound up buying a colonial, but not a center hall. Time period and character were more important to us that specific style of house though.

I wanted a tudor but wasn't going to limit myself to just looking at tudors. We ended up getting a tudor though. Chat Icon

We wanted a center-hall colonial, but location is more important to us than style, so we will probably settle on style.

We really wanted a colonial, but location was more important to us. We found a great house in Bellmore, it's a ranch, but the current owners blew out the back and added a second floor with a HUGE great room.

We liked the layout of the split level homes. That's what we will probably end up with.

I went for location first, and had one style of house I refused to look at. Other than that, I was open minded.

In the end, I got my favorite style - it will all work out.

Good Luck!!
