there is a possum that lives under my neighbors deck-they are in Florida for the winter. And he's been hanging around in our backyard lately. Our dog Jack has cornered him a few times & we are afraid he's going to get biten by the possum. Well the other night was the last straw, DH found the possum IN the chicken run(thank god the chickens were already locked in their coop) & hanging out right under the bunny hutch Possums will totally kill a rabbit or chickens. So DH set up the trap, two nights so far & we didn't get him. When we catch him DH is going to take him to the Hamptons & release him there. I feel bad trapping him & taking him away, but I know he'll kill my pets if he gets the chance

He was probably more interested in the rabbit/chicken food than the animals, they aren't hunters. So I wouldn't worry about that. If he is a nuisance then relocating does sound like a good idea though.

possums are a major predator threat to chickens when they are hungry. I belong to a chicken keeping website where people have videos of possums getting into the coops & killing their birds. I know he eats their food but I try not to leave much out at night. I feel bad trapping him, but I scaring him away isn't working.
