Did you open a bank account for DC?
We had DS's christening this weekend and I'd like to open an acct. for him at my bank. Has anyone done this? WHat do I need to bring with me to open one? TIA!

We put DS's money in a CD. We brought a bunch of things but all they needed was our driver's license and a maybe a major credit card to serve as ID (I am not 100% on the credit card part - I might be confusing it with something else).
When the CD opened we put the money in our money market account until after his birthday. Then we took the new amount he had with some interest and put it into a new CD.

We took most of the money from DD's christening and put it in a college fund. We took a little out and opened a savings account for her. I went to the bank that we have our accounts and all they asked for was a drivers license.

This is also what we did for DS. Between christening, christmas, & hist 1st birthday the money really added up.

After DS's Christening we opened up a Mutual Fund for him and now that he got some more gifts for his birthday, I am putting more $$ into it. I was going to open up a CD (since they have higher interest rates than regular savings account) but since stocks are low now I opted to invest more money for him.

Same here. We opened one for DD with the baby shower $$ and christening $$ we got. I just brought her Birth Certificated, SS Card and my ID.

I opened a savings for her early on. Family gives her $$ for special occasions---some I put in the 529 but some I just put into a little nest-egg for her.

We needed a social security card and one of our IDS. This was for a checking account at Bank of America. Then we also opened an ING account, DH did this over the phone. We transferred all of his money into a cd at ING for the time being.

We did. He has several actually. We brought his SS card, his birth certificate and then our IDs as we are the wards of the accounts.

We only needed our IDs, Abby's SS# and $5.00 to open an account for her. No birth certificate was necessary. We got a bunch of checks shortly after she was born. Some were made to her and they went right into the account. Some were made to DH and myself. If that is the case, just make sure you BOTH sign the checks before one of you tries to deposit them into your DC's account without the other person present.
