Did you rock your newborn to sleep or....
did they just fall asleep on their own all the time WITHOUT any rocking...
Just wondering.

Both of my dds go/went down awake and fell asleep on their own...I rock my younger dd, but just to get her calm and relaxed. Once she is calm, I put her in her crib and she usually goes to sleep pretty quickly.
ETA: I probably rock her more for me than for her...I'm not ready for her to get any bigger and I need special alone time with her!

I used to hold DS while sitting in the glider in his nursery. He'd drink his bottle & fall asleep usually. If not, then I'd bounce him a bit until he fell asleep Then I'd transfer him to the crib. I stopped doing that after a few months. Now I just put him in his crib w/ his bottle & he goes to sleep on his own.

I only did in the wayy beginning and then stopped so I didnt form a habit. she has been able to fall asleep on her own since she has been 2 months old.

DD has always been able to fall asleep on her own. She will usually fall asleep within 10-15 minutes of being put down. She'll babble to her mobile for a while then fall asleep.

Rocked DS till he was about 10 months.  I wish he would let me rock hiim now

ditto. occassionaly my mom or mil would rock her in the glider but I never did it.

Agreed, my DS is 16 months.
From birth until 6 months I rocked him, then he went through a few months where he didnt like being rocked, then he changed back.
Now we sit in the glider read a book, then turn the lights out and rock for 10 minutes, if he is asleep great, if not he goes in his crib awake and puts himself to sleep, but we both enjoy those 10 minutes together.

I was so afraid of creating a bad habit that I never really rocked Gavin at all. He was great at falling asleep on his own watching his mobile....which in turn seems to be a habit in and of itself!
