Did your child have their tonsils and/or adenoids removed?

My son is having his out this week. How long were you in the hospital once he or she was out of recovery?

TIA

My son had this done in November. He had to stay overnight due to a blood clotting disorder, but that's not the norm. Provided there are no complications, they usually send you home the same day. I think it's 3-4 hours after. Where is he having them taken out at? Chat Icon

Ahh, I think I remember you saying that previously. I don't know if your DS has a Build A Bear, but we bought DS a set of scrubs for his and he brought him with him. It was cute. Good luck!!

my ds hasn't but i have. i had my adenoids out in 1st grade and my tonsils out at 20. yes 20! i just wanted to tell you that they didn't want to take my tonsils out when they took out my adenoids and that was a HUGE mistake. it would have saved me years of getting sick if they did it both at the same time. so it's great that you are getting it done early.

i was in the hospital for 2 days (25+ years ago) but i don't remember any pain. just lots of icecream!

My ds had them both taken out at 6yrs old. He had them taken out at Southside Hosp. they were great. Gave him plenty of crayons/coloring books & a stuff animal all in a little bag just for him. It was same day sx, I think I was out between 4-6hrs. They make them eat and drink something before leaving. Having them take them out was the best thing, he hardly gets sick as to before he was always sick with strep.

The Build A Bear is a GREAT idea! Maybe we will go there today.

Will he be sleepy afterwards? Or should I plan to be trying to keep him busy while we wait to be discharged?

Re: Did your child have their tonsils and/or adenoids removed?

Hayley hasn't had her taken out but I did (both tonsils and adnoids)when I was 19 (17 years ago) . I should have gone home that day but I had my surgery so late in the day they kept me overnight. I actually wasn't allowed to eat ice cream because it would have caused too much phlem and I would have to cough. I was allowed to eat anything soft except noodles because they would stick to the stiches in my throat.

Hope he has a speedy recovery Chat Icon

My son was very groggy when he woke up. That lasted a couple of hours.

My DD was pretty tired when she woke up. We were in recovery for about 4 hours before we could go home. They had a portable DVD player and a bunch of movies for her to pick from. She sat on my lap and watched movie falling in and out of sleep.
