Did your nursery become the big kid room or did you move them to a different room?
We are going to do DS big boy room in September when he turns two. Initially, we were going to move him into what is now the office bc its much bigger. DH thinks it will be to much of a change for him and we should keep him in his nursery and just redecorate it.
My reasoning, aside from the room being bigger is that the nursery (his current room) is RIGHT off the living room. The office where I would like to move him is down the hall. I think its best we move him there bc whenever we have DC#2, the nursery is closer to our BR and if we are up all night with a baby I think it would be better for DS to be in his new room away from all the action as opposed to right off the living room where we could be with a crying baby all night.
Did you keep DC in their nursery and just redecorate or if you moved them to a new room....how did it go?

My dd moved to a new room b/c I was pregnant with ds.
DS stayed in the room and we redecorated when it was time for him to move into a bed.

We moved DS to a new big boy room. We felt that he may not adjust very easy but he did. We prepped him alot, saying stuff like "one day this will be your big boy room..what color do you want it to be?"
As we got his room done we spent time in there playing stuff. When we moved his big boy bed in, he was so excited he napped in it that day. That was the end of the nursery for him. That was also the beginning of some tantrums. He felt "older" I suppose.
The nursery is all ready for no. 2!
ETA: we move him when he was closer to 3. We had no problems with him sleeping in the crib, so we didn't rush that. I was scared of him wandering around at night =).

the nursery was the larger of the 2 rooms but when we changed it to a big girl room, we left dd in the same room
older child gets the bigger room, IMHO
we are moving in a few years to a larger home and if 1 room is bigger than another, dc #1 will get that room

I didn't have the same situation, but we moved into a new home when my DS was 12 months, and I too was concerned about him adjusting to a new environment.
We moved, and and even though the room and surroundings were different, his furniture and stuff was still the same. I noticed no change to his sleeping patterns or comfort level.
Maybe you could move his current furniture into the new room, get him used to it, and then move forward with the big boy redesign?

In your situation I would move him.
For us, it will depend on the sex. The nursery is staying as is b/c I love it! So if we have a girl next DS will stay in his room, if we have a boy next DS will move into a new room and the new baby will get the existing nursery.

Re: Did your nursery become the big kid room or did you move them to a different room?
I don't know what I'm doing about this (I was going to post about this today!)
We are front dormering our house and adding another bedroom for a child. The new bedroom won't be much bigger, but it will be a little bigger and the closet will be a good bit bigger.
DH thinks Ryan should have the bigger room, I think a) Ryan should stay put to avoid any more changes when #2 come b) it doesn't really matter b/c it's not that much bigger c) if it's a girl, she should have a bigger closet d) if it's a boy then he'll get everyone of Ryan's things so he'll be the hand me down baby and maybe he deserves his own room
So, I guess I'm no help.

Re: Did your nursery become the big kid room or did you move them to a different room?
When DS was born we gave him the smallest room because I was using one of the other bedrooms as my sewing room. We planned to keep him in there until he was out of the crib.
Our house is 110 years old and does not have central air, when the summer hit that small room was too hot, it has a door leading to an exterior porch rather than a window so we couldn't put an A/C unit in. So I switched rooms with him at 6 months instead of waiting until 2 years.
It was interesting he knew he was in a different room, when we brought him in for the first time he studied all of his things, noting that they were in different places, then I brought him into his old room and he looked to all of the places where his things used to be. I was really suprised that at 6 months he was so aware of his surroundings.
