Re: difference between on/about date and closing?

When we signed the contract the on/about date was 6/1. When the sellers signed it they crossed it out and changed it to 7/1.

We actually closed on 8/1.

They have 30 days leeway from that date--so I'm sure your answers here will vary by that amount of time.

We closed about 20 days after the on/about date. The sellers were waiting to close on their new home.

They said approx 60 days...we went to contract May 19 and closed July 17...pretty accurate.

We had an on or about date of 10/15. We closed 10/6. Our sellers had an on or BEFORE date of 10/15 for the house they were buying so it was a very quick process.

We had an on or about of Nov. 15th...Closed Dec. 19th....I was very nervous that we were over the 30 day window but all parties wanted to get the deal done and the delay was our bank's fault (we were told we werent a priority.....ugh!)

Re: difference between on/about date and closing?

Our closing was a nightmare. Seller verbally agreed to ON or Before 2/28 (we were moving from out of state and needed to have a confirmed date) At the 11th hour they would on do On or About, saying they might need a day or two to get into their new place.

Come 2/28 and she hadn't done squat about her new place - hadn't found a house, hadn't found an apartment, dragged her feet... as we approached 3/28 she still would not set a date. Our lawyer sent a letter saying we were now setting the date as 4/15 or we would start a lawsuit to force the closing.

She flipped out, thinking we could not do that and was told otherwise. She scrambled to find an apt. but could not get in until end of April and we ended up closing on 4/28 - 2 months after the originally agreed upon date.

It was a nightmare I don't wish on anyone. Fortunately, DH was able to stay in MA in our apt. there on a month to month lease so we didn't need to put stuff in storage. I had started my job here the previous Nov. and had 3 months in a corporate apt. but had to move out in Feb. and spent two months living with DH's grandmother in Queens, commuting to Bayport every day.

We found out later from neighbors that she told them she didn't understand why we were making her leave because she thought it would be OK to stay through June when her kids were out of school. Chat Icon
