Dining out

Maybe I’m not being cautious enough but I still want to go out to eat occasionally. Yes, I’m mostly staying home and avoiding crowds, but is there a reason I shouldn’t eat out? I read that COVID isn’t transmitted by hot food and maybe I’ll just wipe my fork down, but I’m assuming restaurants really want the business and would do anything to reassure people that they’re being safe.

Re: Dining out

Yeah most restaurants are putting out statements about their procedures...cleaning, gloved set ups of tables, etc.
I'm still going out to eat.
I just wash my hands before I eat...like always.
All silverware is sanitized in the dishwasher restaurants anyway.

Insignia Steak and Sushi put this on their Facebook page.
Reduced tables for social distancing. Hand sanitizing stations throughout the restaurant for guests and staff. Gloved cleaning and setup. Insignia is OPEN and taking all necessary precautions! #CoronaVirusPrevention #OnlyAtInsignia ? @ Insignia Prime Steak and Sushi

To Our Blackfoot Hospitality Community:
In the true spirit of hospitality, we consider you—our guests and clients—family. Taking care of our family means prioritizing your well-being and safety and we wanted to give you an update on how we’re taking precautions at all our restaurants in response to the current COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

We are doing everything we can to provide comfort and service to our community in the way we know best—through providing genuine hospitality. We have every intention to stay open with normal hours unless advised otherwise by the CDC and Department of Health. We are are following direction from authorities on our capacity limits.

While our restaurants traditionally practice thorough cleaning protocols, we are taking extra precautions during this time to keep our staff, guests, and neighbors safe including sanitizing all surfaces multiples times every service and offering our guests additional opportunities to sanitize upon arrival.

Our staff knows that they are expected to stay home if they are feeling ill, and we encourage you to do the same.

I am not eating out for awhile. I don’t want to eat or drink out of shared utensils/plates/cups. I don’t know who is preparing the food...people can have the virus and not show symptoms for days. If I have to wipe down a fork just to use it, then the risk is not worth it to me.

Re: Dining out

Hate to break it to you all, but a lot of restaurants probably aren’t 100% doing what they say. Right now restaurants are freaking out because they are losing a lot of business. Sure you see gloves, but they aren’t changing it for every table.

I’m currently working an extra job at a restaurant cooking. We are all washing our hands and sanitizing like crazy. But we cannot do it for every little thing.

This happens anyway. When the board of health visits, they usually tell the restaurant that they will be visiting and give a time frame. When the restaurant knows this, they fix things up. It’s very rare that they just pop in.

This is my experience after working in quite a few restaurants, doing a degree in restaurant management, and taking a board of health class to get certified. Perhaps it is anecdotal.

That being said, I still go out to eat for now. The same thing is going to happen at your house. I mean do you wipe down every little thing that you buy at the supermarket?

Yeah I know that even in the best of times restaurants aren't totally clean.
But I still eat out all the time.
If you thought about it too much you'd never eat out.
To be honest, my house isn't really clean either so....

Dining out

All it takes is one person to sneeze on you...so no. It doesn’t matter how diligent a restaurant is being, it’s still open to the public and the public is gross!
Also the dirtiest things in restaurants are the menus. Make sure you clean your hands after touching the menu!!

Off topic but I want to vomit whenever a restaurant gives me a greasy or grimy menu.

So gross.
I always wash my hands or at least use hand sanitizer right before I eat in a restaurant for that very reason!!

gloved hands mean nothing. The gloves get dirty when handling money then make your sandwich, when touching the door to the kitchen then touch your plate. False security in my mind

Any bagel place or deli I have been to uses gloves to make the food and removes and dispose of them to handle money. Then puts on fresh for the next customer.
This is nothing new.

We've eaten out a few times since all of this started. Wash hands immediately after touching the menus, choose restaurants where the tables are spread out. But I get why people don't want to go to restaurants.

I have been getting lunch at the local deli since this all started but I only order it to go. I’m a little leery of sit down dinners out just because I know they are trying to contain this thing

Husband went out to the city with his friends for a steak dinner. Said it was the best time in the city ever since it was mostly empty. The restaurant was very happy to have them and even gave them free port wine. Their bill helped pay some bills I'm sure and they were happy about that

The restaurant last night offered us free after dinner drinks to thank us for our business

Eta...the place was pretty crowded. Maybe less than a normal Saturday, but not empty

I'm not paranoid Nell, I'm stating a fact dirty hands going into clean gloves does not equal free from germs. Gloves are a false safety

Re: Dining out

Doctors here and in Italy are pleading with people not to gather fo rnonessential things. They are telling stories of perfectly healthy people under 40--even under 30--whose systems go into overdrive and kill them from this. They are imploring us to make drastic changes right now so that hospitals don't have to choose who gets ventilators. They have seen and done things that I could never do---so I am stayng home for now.

ETA--in a week's time, it is likely that most will be forced to shut down to stop the restaurant traffic. It will be legislated--starting already.

Dont know if its true -- but friend of my inlaws son is high up in military and says Trump will be announcing nation-wide quarantine within 72 hours. so.....I'm guessing that will mean only supermarkets and pharmacy will be allowed to stay open
