Dining Room Set cost - UPDATED w/ pics of set
I'm trying to figure out what the "avg" price of a set is b/c I just got a quote from Katz Furniture (a discount distributor) for a Martha Stewart set I want and it's going to be over $7K! I really don't want to spend that kind of $$, but am not sure if I'll have to.
This price includes the table (rectangular w/ 4 legs), china cabinet, 6 side chairs, 2 armchairs and a sideboard. I don't think I need the sideboard, but wanted to get the quote with it. It would be about $1K cheaper without it.

Re: Dining Room Set cost - UPDATED w/ pics of set
I spent about $6K for my set. But I just wanted to rave about Katz'. I've used them many times, and I have found that you can't do much better price wise (although I have never investigated N.C.).
My sister just recently saw furniture at Fortunoff's. She was interested in a dining room set, couch, armoire and small wall unit. It totaled almost $11,000. Katz' saved her a little over 3K.
Good luck whatever you decide.

I think that is a good price for that set. I am also excited that you posted that Katz can get MS furniture bc I love one of the bedroom sets. Good Luck - the dining room is great!

I actually think that is a good price for all of those pieces. our table and chairs alone were 3,000. you are also getting the china cabinet and sideboard which could possibly be 1,500 - 2,000 each.
if you are unsure price out some other sets. potterybarn has some that look similar to the one you like and compare the prices.

I got my Shermag bedroom set through them, and was nervous they didn't carry MS when I found this DR set b/c they didn't get back to me right away. They said w/ MS they can't do too much with the price, but can def. get it cheaper.

I have a Canadel table (108"), 8 mission style chairs and my china cabinet and it was close to $7500 in Fortunoff's! WE ordered from a NC furniture broker and saved a ton!

I'm not sure what the average is, but I LOVE THAT SET! If you can afford it, I'd go for it. Just think, you'll be having family meals on that table for the next 20+ years! Who can put a price on that?
Also, not that you asked for an opinion, but I love the china cabinet and the table and chairs. Not as wild about the sideboard.

Yeah, the Martha Stewart collections are expensive because they are made by Bernhardt. Really nice though! Actually Thomasville and Ethan Allen have similiar pricing for dining room sets.

Re: Dining Room Set cost - UPDATED w/ pics of set
I think that set is REALLY pretty - although I am a sucker for MS furniture. As the PP said - it is made by Bernhardt so it's great quality. I think that the price that you got is very reasonable. While it sounds like a lot, it's really not that much to pay for furniture that will last forever.

That's starting to become my thinking about everything we buy - we're going to be sitting on boxes in the living room
Glad you're not as thrilled with the sideboard - I priced it just so I would know what the complete set would cost, but honestly don't think I need it.
Plus the lines of this set are classic enough, I think I could mix-n-match something more "antiquey" if I want a sideboard or console.
