Dipping my toes into the waters..
I'm hoping you ladies can help me.
I'm not there yet, but I am thinking of starting TTC within the next year
What are the things that I need to think about? What do I need to do to prepare? Any specific medical testing?
Is there a list of the things you can't do when you're pregnant that I should be aware of for planning?
I'm just sort of thinking about it now.
I already temp and chart (to prevent pregnancy) so that will be an easy transition.
Thanks!

Re: Dipping my toes into the waters..
Other than starting to take prenatals or a multi-vitamin with at least 400 mcg of Folid Acid, I would recommend making an appointment with your OB and getting checked out. She/He may have some suggestions for you.
Good luck!! Charting is a huge help!

Re: Dipping my toes into the waters..
How far in advance should I start pre-natals?
I am due for a GYN visit so I plan to ask then.
I told DH (who si the one with real baby fever), that if we can get our ish together, we can many start trying next summer.
I'm really scared about the whole process, so I'm hoping to just plan and know what to expect

Re: Dipping my toes into the waters..
Starting pre-natals now won't hurt, in fact I've read that all women of child bearing age can benefit from pre-natal vitamins.
Your dr knows you and your history best so he/she will have good advice when you go for your check up.

Re: Dipping my toes into the waters..
Ideally you want to be on prenatals for 3 months before you get pg. But, it doesn't hurt to be on it longer. They just tend to be more expensive than regular multivitamins.
What are you scared of?

Dipping my toes into the waters..
A prenatal is a multi-vitamin with added Folic Acid and DHA.
So it can't hurt you to start taking them now even if you aren't planning to TTC for another 8 months.

Re: Dipping my toes into the waters..
The only things I did prior to the first time I started TTC was to see my OB/GYN for a physical (just wanted to make sure I was up to date on everything), I started taking pre-natals, and I just started to eat a little better and drop a few pounds.
I didn't have any type of testing done until it became clear that I was having some issues with my cycles.
Good luck!............whenever you decide to start trying!!

Re: Dipping my toes into the waters..
Thanks!
I'm not regular at all with my GYN visits, so I wouldn't say he knows me at all. Would it help to ask my primary?
It may happen sooner my DH REALLY has the baby fever!
My close cousin just had a baby, plsu out 18 mo niece is adorable, so we're surrounded by cuteness!
What am i afraid of? EVERYTHING!
I'm terrified of childbirth (to the point where I think I'd be content adopting all of our kids), I'm scared of what pregnancy wil do to by body being sick etc. I have 6 herniated discs in my back, so I'm concerned about that. Ugh. Just everything!
We love to travel so i don't know how that will impact it.
I don't even know what you can/can't eat while pregnant excpet caffeine and alcohol

Dipping my toes into the waters..
I would say meet with your OB/GYN since they are the one that will be meeting with you when you do get preggers so they should know your history and family history.
If you are Jewish they might want to test for the different diseases that can be passed onto a child. My sister's an OB and she started me on prenatals March 2011 and we just started trying 3 months ago. My hair and nails are AMAZING because of them.
Your concerns are valid completely! Maybe when you see your doctor he/she can help calm those concerns a little bit, especially the concerns with your back.
Good luck!!!

the only thing you need to know is to stop planning immediately
seriously though - if you think it will take a while to get pregnant, it wont. if you think you'll get pregnant right away, you won't. check your preconceived notions and planning at the TTC door because as soon as you start "trying" to have a baby, everything goes haywire. my best advice is, if you already know when you ovulate because you chart, just have sex a bunch around that time and forget about it until a few days before your period is due. DO NOT plan and do not look into symptoms. just have fun and hope for the best. it is extremely easy to get obsessive over every little thing and frankly that just doesn't help anything so just keep charting and do the opposite of what you did to prevent. but most of all HAVE FUN!!

Sure, you can see your primary and ask for a script for fasting bloodwork. Full panel so they can check for thyroid also.
