I would get a second opinion.
JMO, but I've heard too many people have doctors that recommended c-sections due to baby's size, and then the baby comes out and they're average. And there are many, many women that deliver 8+ pound babies naturally. How can the doc know if you have a small pelvis if he's never checked you out??
This is my thinking. Those sonogram estimates can be off by +/- 2 pounds. I wondered too about the pelvis thing. It felt like a scare tactic. I will be calling another practice today that I know is VBAC friendly and see if they take my insurance. I am notorious for getting 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th opinions when it comes to medical stuff.
Sounds like a good idea to get another opinion. Have them measure your pelvis to get a more accurate idea of whether it is in fact small. My DS was measuring big all along, i didn't even buy newborn clothes bc he was big. Well, i was induced at 36 weeks 6 days and he was born at only 6 lbs, 4 oz. So much for big. (although he's huge now at 28+pounds and 32.5 inches ). VBACS are so controversial to some but there was a great article in the NY Times about it and the benefits. Don't get discouraged, get all the info and then make your decision based on the facts, not other people's fear.

I wouldn't risk it. With #1, I was induced, fully dilated, and pushed for 2 hours, but no matter what I did, he wouldn't come out. OB said afterwards that my pelvis was angled in such a way that it was pushing the baby toward my spine, which is why I had all back labor, and the epi's didn't work. So he was stuck essentially, therefore I needed the csection. It was not something they could predict, so i had to go thru all that pain just to end up with a csection anyway. She said I was not a good candidate for vbac, so I had a repeat csection for #2. It honestly was not bad at all, and I recovered quicker this time around. DS was only 7lbs too, and I still had problems.

I am just curious - which doc did you see? Because there are some docs in that practice that are against VBAC for no good reason.
In the end, in your shoes, I think I would go for it but only with the unterstanding that they will whisk you into the OR at the first sign of distress for a c-section. My kids were both normally sized but my DS has a HUGE head and I don't know if I ever would have been able to deliver him vaginally. The fact that I had a C with him and never went into labor is part of the reason I was able to VBAC with my DD. Every baby is different!
LB I already gave her the rundown LOL I didn't know that Dr. D left though.
