Well, high end and really well known for being top-notch is Bosch. But, you will pay top dollar.
So, if you don't want high end it depends on the features you like.
For me, I like how Whirlpool has the patent on the silverware holder being on the door. It is a big space-saver in the dishwasher. It is nice that all of the silverware goes on the door and doesn't take up any of the space for everything else on the top and bottom racks. You won't find anything else really similar to that - all other brands, that I know of, have the silverware holder someplace in the dishwasher - top or bottom rack. I know that LG has some nicer models that have a silverware, very thin, rack that slides out from the top of the dishwasher. So, you open the door, there's a thin rack you roll out that is above the regular top rack, attached to the top inside part of the dishwasher, if that makes sense.
My mom has that LG dishwasher because, for years, she had the Whirlpool and wanted that silverware holder NOT in the main top or bottom rack. And since they were buying all other LG appliances she went with that so it was similar. You do have to individually line up the silverware though so it's not that easy when loading to just "toss it in"... Whereas, with the Whirlpool rack on the door - you just threw the dirty fork in there, ya know?
I know that reliable brands that rate well for performance are: Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, Maytag, and Kenmore does pretty good too.
HTH :)

-Make sure you read the reviews and the dishwasher dries the dishes completely at the end of the cycle. Mine does not and I HATE it!
-Dry cycle only option is a good one
-Delay start is another nice feature

I remember a thread about the utensil holder on here years ago. My issue with the holder on the door is that the bottom rack has to be smaller to accommodate the utensil rack. Most of the time, that's fine, but if you have a huge dish/pot/whatever, you may wish you were able to remove the utensil holder from the bottom tray and have that extra space. We have a utensil holder in the bottom rack, and our rack extends into the door, where a door mounted holder would be, giving us a few more inches of capacity on the bottom drawer.
A lot of shopping experts suggest bringing your biggest pot/pan and seeing how it fits in the dishwasher. The exterior dimensions of dishwashers are all the same (except for drawer or freestanding dishwashers), but the interior capacity varies. I looked for the largest interior capacity, tines that could flip up and down to handle various shaped items, and a relatively quiet unit. They will post the peak and average decibels that the washer makes.

Have you tried cleaning the spinning arms first? When we moved into our house our dishwasher wasn't working great. I looked and there was food stuck in the water spouts. Cleaned it and haven't had a problem since.

We have a Bosch and love it. I always forget it on because it hardly makes any noise

Bosch all the way. Super quiet, really big space so it holds a lot. Ours has the control panel on top under the counter top so you don't see any buttons on the door. It's super nice. Delay start is great.

Re: dishwashers
Bosch. Had a kitchen aid years ago and it was crap compared to the Bosch I got when I moved into my next house. Redoing my kitchen now and purchased another Bosch.
