Disney Dining Package?

Has anyone ever done this?

We are really thinking of doing it.

I have. it used to be a GREAT deal but they changed it a bit and while there's still a savings it may not be worth the hassle. In order to get your money's worth, you are going to have to use every single credit and make ADRs for the table service meals (which should be for dinner to get the best value).

Currently, it's 37.99 per person per day. With that you get:

1 Snack (almost any food or beverage less the $4.00. Meal foods like a hot dog or pizza are excluded)

1 Counter Service Meal (Entree/Combo, dessert and beverage)

1 Table Service Meal (Entree, dessert, beverage. No appertizer - no tip.)

Intercot.com and Disboards.com have the menus online so you can do some cost comparison to see if you will save money.

It's different now -- the tip & appetizer are no longer included. I think there's still some savings but not the crazy amounts we are used to.

Re: Disney Dining Package?

I am considering it for our next trip since we do spend at least that much sometimes just on dinner.

We couldn't do it this trip because we did not book our whole trip through Disney (even though we are staying there Chat Icon ) - I was told lodging, park tix (ordering through Disney's convention site) and the dining has to be ordered all in one package.

I could be wrong, but thats how I understood it. ok now that I just typed it, I DON'T understand why we couldn't do it! Chat Icon

Re: Disney Dining Package?

We did free dining... I would never ever ever pay for it. Yes, it's $37 a day but it's a LOT of food. There are some days you just want a banana for breakfast or a sandwich for dessert and on the DDP I felt like I HAD to eat. Also sitting down for a meal every day takes a lot of time when I could be at the parks.

We do it, and for us, it pays. We are the type who have a sit down breakfast and dinner every day, and rarely eat a "lunch", ususlly just grab a snack. We feel that dining is part of the whole vacation experience, but I know lots of people who feel differently. You just have to know the type of vacationer you are.Chat Icon

I would do it. We went in December and spent a small fortune on food.

Re: Disney Dining Package?

I think it is worth it if you are planning on being in the park all day, every day. We did it and while there was some $$ savings, I really liked it for the convenience. You just use your room key card - they swipe it to pay for the meals and snacks, so you don't have to worry about how much cash you are carrying.

I found it to be plenty of food and I think we would have spent more if we paid individually for things. The food at the restaurants in the parks is very good, but the food at our hotel was not as good. This is why I say if you are eating at the parks or if you go to hotel restaurants you know are good, I think it is worth it.

We are going back and forth on it - I think it can work to your advantage if you plan it correctly - but it isn't as good a deal as last year. The issue is what would you eat if you didn't get the plan and what will you eat if you do. They cut out the tips and the appetizer so it is less of a bargain.

I believe the deluxe dining plan includes those items but you also get 3 meals a day but the regular dining plan as of 2008 has dropped those items. (If you your trip started in 2007 they might have done their old policy which was your package is whatever was included when you checked in - vs - now it changes depending on the night and season you stay).

You don't have to be on the dining plan to use your room key. You just present a CC at check in and you can charge all of your purchases/meals/etc. with your room key.
