Disney in December

I am thinking about taking a trip with DH the week after Christmas....Has anyone been there this week? How crazy is it?

Thanks!

Disney between Christmas & New Years is one of their peak weeks with huge crowds, long waits, etc.

From what I understand, after New Years the crowds dwindle considerably. For next year - the crowds may be there through the weekend since 1/1/10 is a Friday.

yup!

I wouldn't do it (and we've gone during high volume weeks in august)... still, i wouldn't go that week if you paid me to!

This year, we went the week before christmas and it was AWESOME! We walked onto almost every ride without any lines... the crowds were the lowest of the year and the weather was high 70s-low 80s all week. It was the Best!!

We went a week before Christmas once and it was great. Kids are still in school, so the parks were clear.

Re: Disney in December

I know you changed your mind but wanted to add that this past week at Disney was a madhouse and Magic Kingdom was closed to everyone by 11AM NYE and EPCOT was close behind. They said yesterday the both parks were almost at capacity most of the week. The reason being is the Captial One Bowl (Citrus Bowl) they have every year on New Years Day is in Orlando and that is why the parks are so busy. They stay a week or a few days.

In other words I would avoid Orlando and Disney all together the week after Xmas. Did you think of going to another part of FL or even Disneyland? I think those won't be as busy.

Re: Disney in December

Don't do it!!! I just got back from Disney 12/26- 1/2 and it was crazy. Earlier in the week was slightly better, but by the end of the week, and around New Year's it was absolute mayhem. One day we went in to the Magic Kingdom, and left after 45 minutes. Even the fast passes were a 8-12 hour wait. We never did get on Space Mountain or Thunder Mountain. On New Year's Eve, all the parks were at capacity. Ofcourse, our resort seemed to significantly die down on the 2nd, which was also the day we left. I'm a teacher, so we were limited on when we could go. We knew it would be busy, but it was even more so than we imagined. If you can go at another time, I would highly recommend it...plus you'd get a better deal too!

ITA!!!. I was there for those exact days as well. It was crazy to say the least. The only thing that saved us were the extra magic hours, so we were done with all the big attractions by 11 a.m., although we had to get up by 6. Oh well!!!!
