Disney Wilderness Lodge
Any one want to talk about your experience there? Yes, I searched - was wondering if there was anyone who went recently.
I am particularly concerned about the boat ride to Magic Kingdom. . .is it short? It seems so convenient!
Thank you

Re: Disney Wilderness Lodge
I love Wilderness Lodge! The boat ride to MK is about 5-10 minutes. It's nice and relaxing. It is extremely convenient and it's one of our favorite places to stay.

Re: Disney Wilderness Lodge
I'm curious to see some answers to this. We love the AKL and would love to take the girls there some day. We are thinking of a trip for next year and I'm looking at POR (for the Royal guest rooms - princess rooms), AKL or WL. I have walked around the WL before in the past with DH and it is nice (I think it is the same architect as the AKL) but it didn't leave me as excited as the AKL did because that one is so unique. But the draw for me to the WL - is that 1) is it so close to the MK and 2) I read a lot that the kids LOVE it.

Re: Disney Wilderness Lodge
One of the things I love about AKL is one of the things I don't like about it. I love that it's far removed from everything and is a wonderful place to relax after a day at the parks. You really feel like you're in a different world when you stay there.
Wilderness Lodge has the same feeling for me but it's a lot easier to get around using WDW transportation. I feel like it's secluded yet in the middle of it all.
I'm not a huge fan of the food offerings in AKL. Whispering Canyon (the sit down), Artist Point (the "signature") and Roaring Forks are more our speed. Also the Territory Lounge is great for an end of day cocktail.

PO French Quarter is our moderate choice.
But I keep reading complaints about the bus and it taking long to get to magic kingdom because the make 3 stops at riverside first. With DD I know I will be going back and forth and I want the convenience.

Disney Wilderness Lodge
We stayed in the wilderness lodge about 10 years Ago and we loved. But for a more recent review we told friends about it Bout 3 yrs ago (before dd was born) and they went and lovedddd it as well.
The boat was so nice, easy and quick. Whispering canyon is still one of my favorite places.

See with DD I feel like I will be back in the middle of the day so she can relax and we can make it to the nighttime activities at MK -- that's why I want to stay close and you can't get closer than a 10 minute boatride (unless you stay at a monorail resort).
We are only doing 2 park days, both MK. So maybe if we were doing more days we wouldnt care so much and only go in the morning OR after lunch to the parks. . . instead of back and forth.
For some reason, something about WL just POPS out at me and I keep going back to it!

Disney Wilderness Lodge
I am NOT a camping, woodsy girl and I love Wilderness Lodge! It's "home" to me. The convenience, the price point, the restaurants on-site, the staff... just love it.
We've stayed Club Level multiple times as well as regular rooms and my only caution would be to avoid the standard view rooms as most have an ugly view. It's one of the few resorts where we start off quoting clients an upgraded room.

See that was exactly my same concern. Which is why last 2 trips (1st with a 15 month old and 2nd with 2 under 3 - 12 months and almost 3) we did the poly because I believe firmly in the mid day break. But niw that they are 3 and 5 no diapers and smaller stroller/less to carry I feel that we can stay somewhere else. We were lucky to get 40% off room only that last trip. You don't see those discounts anymore. If you want to be close to the MK WL is a very good choice if you don't want the monorail price tag!

Re: Disney Wilderness Lodge
We were at the WL at the end of October 2011 and LOVED it! My sons were 3 and 18 months at the time.
Whispering Canyon was a lot of fun for the kids, and Artist Point was our date night restaurant (my parents came with us). The boat rides to the MK and the Contemporary were very convenient for us. We also got a great view of the electrical water parade from our boat and from the beach!
The pools are really nice too. Our room was a decent size, and the staff were helpful and attentive.
I highly recommend it if you want a Magic Kingdom resort.

Re: Disney Wilderness Lodge
I have visited and this is the next resort we are staying at (within the year). We just got back from the Poly, and while I loved it, I am looking forward to trying out the lodge.
The pool is beautiful. And it's a boat ride from the MK, which is the park we spend most time in. We just went for a week and spent 3 days or so, and 3 nights or so in MK. So that's the next resort we look forward to staying in.

ITA with all of this. Im telling you I always feel like the Wilderness is a great SECRET!
When we first tell people to go they are always like ehhh, then they go and say how awesome it is!!
Like I said we went without kids and we said we would go back. When we went to disney in jan we stayed the carribean beach but I totally preferred the Wilderness and will most likely stay there next time we go.

It's one of our favorite hotels to stay at there! The boat ride to MK is not long at all and very scenic. We loved it!

Re: Disney Wilderness Lodge
I just got back from there on Friday. We loved it! I think Lily is the same age-ish as AM and it was so convenient to jump on the boat and go back and forth when she was tired. We also did Chef Mickey's and the boat-monoral combo was quick and easy.
The pool area is beautiful and she loved the geysers and beach. Every night on the beach they play a Disney movie and there is also a parade on the lake at night. When the pool was too crowded we took her to the quieter one by the villas that was almost deserted.
Feel free to ask me any other questions!
