Disney with young kids: Beach Club vs. Port Orleans Riverside
We're planning our first Disney trip in early March. My girls will be 3 and 6. We've narrowed it down to Beach Club or Port Orleans. Dh and I like what we've seen/read about the Beach Club, but is it really worth the extra money compared to POR? Walking to Epcot and HS does sound appealing, but we have friends who have stayed at POR and said the buses were fine. Thoughts?

Beach Club for sure. Everything is under one roof, no external buildings to walk to in the rain to get food, etc. The pool is amazing there! Sandy bottom lagoon area. The waterslides are fun, the Pirate Cruise leaves from right there. Easy walk or boat ride to Epcot and HS. POR is a moderate, so not really in the same category. Not a fan of how large that resort is.

I don't think you can compare the two since they are in different price categories. Of course Beach Club is better. The boat to Epcot and HS is very convenient. I did think the bus to MK was very slow because it loops with Boardwalk and Disney Swan.

Beach Club. Never been to Port Orleans but Boardwalk area is the only place I'll stay now because we loved it so much.

I haven't stayed at the Beach Club but I just LOVE POR. It's such a pretty resort and you can get the Royal Room which your girls will love. I really enjoyed staying there so we're going back to POR in May. I cannot wait!!
As an aside, I'd rather stay at a moderate resort and get an extra day or two in our vacation then pay for the deluxe. We're hardly ever in the room anyway.

You can't really compare because it is moderate vs. deluxe. We usually stay deluxe, but we tried Port Orleans for 1 night and while it was absolutely lovely, I found it to be way too large a resort. The royal rooms are done to perfection, though. But there is no comparison between Storm Along Bay and the pools at Port Orleans if that is important to you.

Beach Club for sure. I honestly would get a little Mermaid room at AoA before Port Orleans. The rooms are set up exactly the same, just the actual decor is different and AoA is usually less expensive

But the Little Mermaid room is SO much smaller compared to the room at POR. Little Mermaid room is the size of a value resort, they are manageable but VERY tiny. If the OP is looking between POR and the Beach Club, AOA Little Mermaid room is really not in the running.

The AOA Liittle Mermaid room is so small that the door almost hits the bed when you open it. And they have double beds, not queen. The hike to the food court is FAR! The lines for buses there are SOOOO long since it's a super HUGE resort. We stayed there once, and never again.

I have never stayed in a suite, I probably wouldn't because I just don't care for the resort, but they are close to the main building and look cute and the interior corridors are nice. The Cozy Cone Cabanas at the Cars pool are beyond adorable. We didn't use the bus, we just saw how long the lines were and it was a joke! I could not believe how many people there were in line! People had to wait many cycles to get a bus. But it's a HUGE resort. We had rented a car, so used that and this was an extension of a stay at the Yacht/Beach Club when a hurricane was coming up our way over the 4th of July a couple of years ago....so we were only there for 2 nights.
I did not like the food court either. They had no ice cream (weird)..but maybe they have since added it...and I didn't like the food choices compared to the other resorts. I also wasn't really a fan of the Nemo pool. It was way huge, a million people, and the underwater sound was really underwhelming.

I've never stayed at AOA but last time we went to Disney we were at Pop Century which is a short walk from AOA. I will say, they whole theme is ADORABLE. Your kids will LOVE it! My two went nuts when they saw the grounds and pools. They are HUGE Nemo fans so they fell in love, my DD is still begging me (2 yrs later!!) to stay at AOA next time.
Waiting for buses can be annoying but that is true of all the resorts to some degree. Depending when you go though, it might not be a big deal. POR is considered to be a big resort too and when we stayed there we never waited more than 5-10 minutes for a bus BUT we went at a quieter time of year.
I've known a few people who have stayed at AOA and they have all enjoyed their stay there.

As a Disney person that goes twice a year, for your first trip I would do Beach Club. Port Orleans is a beautiful resort but it is HUGE. The Royal Rooms are great but they are far from transportation. In addition Port Orleans has several internal bus stops. That adds a lot of travel time which during non peak times isn't a big deal . But during peak times it can be really annoying.
The walk to Epcot is really great. I'd image, though, you'll be spending a lot of time at Magic Kingdom. But having the option to walk to Epcot in the evenings is so nice.
