Disney World vs. Disney land
I've been to Disney world a couple of times now but never went to Disney land. Has anyone been to both? Is it worth the trip or would it be disappointing since I've been to WDW already?

I really want to go to DL because that's where it all began, but Wendy, Don and Boosh and other veterans of both have told me DL is really NOTHING compared to WDW

DW has so much more, but I still had fun when I went to Disneyland. It wasn't the main reason for our vacation though. I wouldn't go with disneyland as my main purpose.

Re: Disney World vs. Disney land
i went to dl last year and just came back from dw. obviously dw is better b/c there's so much more to do. but it's cool to see dl and it's really fun too. but we went out to cali for a week and only spent two days at dl. i would recommend doing that and then seeing other things near there like hollywood, santa monica etc.

This is what we are planning to do one day. I am curious and what to check it out but it's much smaller then DW.

We spent 13 hours there on one day and did everything we wanted.

Re: Disney World vs. Disney land
I have been to both several times. You're going to be dissapointed with Disneyland. DH was... It just lacks the "magic" of WDW. Alot of the rides are old, and it just has an overall "old skool" feel to the park. I can't explain it. WDW just has that certain atmosphere of excitement that DL doesn't. It's fun and all, but it just feels weird. PLUS- a majority of the rides are the same as they are in WDW. So you're only experiencing a few different things.
California Adventure is fun, but again, it just doesn't feel like Disney. It just feels weird.
We did both parks in 2 days. Definitely not a place to base your whole vacation around. We went to LA and then took the 11/2 hour drive (w/traffic) down to Anaheim. We're glad we did it, but just go with the attitude that it's Disneyland and DEFINITELY NOT WDW. IMO-- You just can't compare the two.

Re: Disney World vs. Disney land
Also, when DL was created, it was created as an amusement park. An AWESOME amusement park, but still an amusement park. Disney World was ddesigned differently, to be this huge immersive magical experience.

Re: Disney World vs. Disney land
Ive never been to DL. My parents where there and they said its just not Disney World. She explained how its in the middle of a city? And that its doesn't have the feel. Like when you goto Disney you drive through that long street to get into the parking lot. She also said (I don't know how true it is) that when you are some rides you can see the busy street?
I would like to see Disney Land one day. I didn't know Disney land was built first till this week. Disney LAND was built in 1955 Celebrating their 50th birthday and Disney WORLD was built in 1971.

Yes Disneyland is right in the middle of a town. Or to be correct-- the towns built themselves up around the park. Since 50 years ago there was NOTHING there. You can definitely see the surrounding areas when on the rides.

Re: Disney World vs. Disney land
yeah, DL is right in the middle of the city. The reason WDW is so great is because the area around DL turned out to be quite seedy at first, so then Walt decided to buy a LOT of property for WDW so it wouldn't be near anything else.
Also, I have the opening of DisneyLand on DVD (it was a live telecast) and I cry watching it...
I really want to do to DL, because Walt never even set foot in WDW, so for me, DL is where the history is, that's walt's dream, and ANY time I hear or read the dedication of DL, it makes me bawl my eyes out.

I agree - though I'm definately glad I did visit DL. We incorpirated into a 10 day vacation out in California. We visited a bunch of other theme parks, San Diego and went on a lot of studio tours. You definately can't compare the two, but I'm glad I was at the original.
