Distance of Hospital from your Home

Not pregnant, but planning on TTC next year and was wondering if you ladies could help me, as I am CLUELESS when it comes to these things!

I live in Queens (Forest Hills) and work in midtown. My ob-gyn is in midtown and if I was pregnant, I would be delivering at NYU Tisch (right by the Queens Midtown tunnel).

Will that be too far from where I live? Should I instead find a doctor who will deliver closer to my home?

Also, I work long hours so it would be much easier to go to doctors appointments in the city during the day while at work then in Queens or LI.

I don't think it is a big deal for delivering because it uses takes a while for the baby to come once you are in labor. I think you will be fine having your doctor near your job. It may be a pain if you have to go to the Dr. from your house though.

Re: Distance of Hospital from your Home

I live in Queens (Middle Village), work in Midtown and my doctor and hospital are both on Lakeville Rd in LI. I WISH I had a Manhattan doctor and a Manhattan hospital.

I see my doctor 1 per week and my high risk doctor every other week, in addition to being sent for various tests and sonograms throughout this pregnancy ...

To leave work and sit in bumper to bumper traffic 2x per week on the LIE is more stressful than anything else .. and there is ALWAYS traffic!

IMO, It's quicker to take the streets through Queens to the midtown tunnel than to go to Nassau County at any time ...

I live in Forest Hills too, but I'll be delivering in LI (NSUH in Manhasset). I personally don't love the hospitals around our area so I'd rather take to 20 minute drive.

Also, my dr. is in Great Neck - I usually make my app'ts. early in the morning so that I don't miss work.

Re: Distance of Hospital from your Home

My hospital is about 4 miles from my home, but that doesn't mean yours has to be.

I had a friend who lived i Valley Stream but delivered at Mt. Sinai......not close at all and would have been a nightmare if there was traffic, but 2 kids later and it was fine.

I say go for what's easier for your doctor appointments.
Good Luck TTC!
