Re: DJ AM Found Dead
Terrible. Seems he was working on a show to be aired on MTV in October to help people overcome addiction.
From a Yahoo article:
In October, MTV was to debut his reality show, "Gone Too Far," in which he and concerned families staged interventions for drug abusers. In a recent AP interview, he talked about holding a crack pipe for the first time in years for the show and said he felt as though he had an angel on his shoulder for surviving so much turmoil.
"There's no better way to remember what it was like when I was at my bottom than to see someone at their bottom," he told the AP.
I really hope holding that crack pipe for the 1st time in years didn't take him back to it

Guess I'm in the minority because I feel NO compassion for someone who OD's, no matter what happened in their life.
Dude! You survived a major plane crash. At that point I would think one would stop taking life for granted.
Wether its illegal drugs or prescription drugs not taken properly, death is a very realistic risk. This is not a secret. Sucks for him that he couldnt value his life a little more.
I'm not suggesting you should change your POV but I am commenting bc I don't think it's that simple. Addiction is much more cunning than that. I have compassion for someone who didn't hurt anyone else but was a victim of their own demons.

well said and ITA. No one wakes up one day and says "I think I want to be an addict" there is way more involved than that. What about his family? Sorry I feel like that was a very harsh comment to say.

I must add - this is someone who has openly admitted that he struggled with depression for many, many years. Depression is a horrible mental illness and something that you cannot just "turn off" with a switch, regardless of your outside circumstances and how wonderful things seem on the outside. Add post traumatic stress disorder (which he stated he was dealing with as well) into the mix and you have a major recipe for disaster. It's not as simple as "you survived this or that; you should be thankful for what you have!"
I can pretty much guarantee that he was well aware of the risks that he was taking and unfortunately, probably got to the point where he was too depressed to even think rationally anymore .

Did you ever think that *maybe* someone on the boards could have lost a family member in a similar fashion? Did it ever occur to you that if so this could be construed as highly offensive?

exactly, and even more than that, it is just a heartless thing to say and not the right post to say such a thing IMHO
addiction is a terrible disease and I am shocked than anyone would say "ita" to this limited and short sighted POV

Re: DJ AM Found Dead
The man almost burned alive in a plane crash, as much as I am sure he wished he could wake up everyday and say wow im glad im alive and thats good enough..i find it highly unlikely..i imagine he was highly traumitized not to mention he had lived through depression prior, and he lost friends in the accident he survived! i feel sad for him. may he rip.

Actually someone very close in my family has gone thru it and almost died twice because of an overdose. I feel sad for his parents who found him - twice - and thought that they were going to lose their son. And his brothers who tried so hard after finding out about his addiction to help him only to get nowhere. The heartache and pain he has caused for his family was unbelievable. I am proud of him now to say that he has been clean for a few years. I am sad for the situation but not necessarily FOR him.
My compassion lies with the family and friends that will have this sadness follow them for the rest of their lives. I feel VERY sad for THEM.
And I'm very sorry if I offended someone - that was not my intent.

I realize it's not your intent to offend people, and I agree that his family and friends grieve in a way that I hope no one ever grieves. That being said, I would ask that you consider for a moment the amount of pain this man has felt/struggled with his entire life. Battling depression and addiction is no walk in the park. Please consider the pain this man must have been under if he went this far to try and find some relief. Your comments are very callous.

How do you know it was prescription drugs?
My thoughts too. I know he was taking prescription drugs from the plane crash, of which got him back into his old drug habits. Before the plane crash you was sober for the longest time (decade). And if I remember correctly that was the downfall of Nicole and AM's relationship because he was sober and she wasn't. They found him next to a crack pipe =(.
I was listening to his CD today=(. Yes I know there is no AM cd's. One of my friends works at Glo of which AM played there last year and they recorded his performance without him knowing heheh.
