Do any of your babies do this?

DS is OBSESSED with looking at lights or the ceiling fans (can't figure out which one) When you hold him, that is always where his eyes go, no matter what room in the house we are in...I am not sure if I should be concerned or happy that he is starting to focus on things. He is 14 weeks but was 10 weeks premature, so his corrected age is 4 weeks.

yes, my dd was mesmerized by the fan for months when she was first born, it is totally normal

she used to look up and smile at the fan

I remember my mom used to put the fan on, on purpose for my little sister...she could sit there for so long staring at it.

Think of it like a mobile...just keep the setting low.

DD would smile and laugh at the fan and lights too. Sometimes we wondered if we had "visitors".

thank you all so much for putting my fears to rest....I really was starting to think that there might be something wrong with him - just chalk it up to being a first time neurotic mom

Yes, we had a Christmas tree up shortly after DS was born and he loved staring at the lights. He still stares at lights or sources of light actually, though he doesn't get as mesmerized.

Same for the celing fan! DH thought it was weird, but the fan is black and the ceiling is white, so I figured he liked the contrast. His coworker told him her sons loved the ceiling fan too. He still looks at it (12 weeks), but he doesn't gaze at it so obsessively anymore.

yes they loved my ceiling fan.. everytime my dh spoke they would look at the ceiling fan so i used to harass him and say "say hi to daddy" and wave at the fan

TOtally! DS is 10 weeks and if you take him someplace new his face LIGHTS up just looking at the lighting. My BIL has sloped, 18+foot ceilings with the high hats, my son was in overload taking them all in!


I think most babies are like that

Ceiling fans are like crack in this house. My ds can't get enough. He loves looking at them spin.

LIGHT was one of my girls first words!!! All 3 of them!!!!

Totally normal! Light was my DS's first sign and first word!

Kailey did that since the day she was born at the hospital. It lasted for about 2 1/2 months and now she looks at everything not just lights and fans.

Yup! He always has and still is.

Actually this past weekend, he was looking at a ceiling fan that was off (no light on it) and he looked at me very confused, like "Hey ma, why's the fan off" That's no fun"

DD was 7 weeks early, but my nephew was full term and he loved ceiling fans.

Our DD could look at the lights in our house all day. And since we have a fan in every room (just about) she always has something to look at.

yep....Steven had a love affair with our living room chandalier. He would stare and FLIRT!

at 4 months, DD is still fascinated with lights...

Yup, she would stare at the ceiling fan w/ the lights on for a long time. She would even fall asleep looking for so long

We had a few rough nights where that fan got her quiet.

DS is over a year and a half old and still points to the fan when we walk into a room.
