Do babies needs hats to keep their heads warm or is it just to look cute?

I often see pictures of babies with hats. I didn't register for any thinking we didn't need them. But then I see all the babies coming home with a hat on.

Is the hate just a cute accessory or actually a necessity?

I think babies circulation isn't that great-- so the hats are form and function.

They need the hat to stay warm. The hospital usually gives you one or two while they are there

I think people in general lose a lot of heat from our heads .........which is why people say to keep a baby's head covered to keep him warm -

The hospital will give you some.

DS didn't wear them for that long for two reasons, one being he has a giant head and most didn't fit and number two being that he was born at the very end of April.

I wouldn't register for any----most of the infant/newborn layette outfits come with them.

Absolute necessity...all of their body heat (or a high percentage) escapes through their heads...the first few days, they aren't able to regulate their body temperature so they have to wear hats. Def must!

With my first they had him wear a hat for one day and then said that it wasn't necessary. Maybe it depends on the baby?

They are to keep the heat in their bodies because even after they are born their nervous systems are still developing.

our dr actually told us that DD should wear a hat for the first month, its the largest part of their body at this point and loses a lot of heat

Hats are necessary especially if your baby is coming home in the winter

DS was born 2 weeks ago. I always have a hat on him. Babies lose a lot of heat from their head. They also tend to have cold hands and feet at the beginning b/c they have poor circulation.
