Do I buy a plane ticket for a 10 month old?
Please tell me no...
We are going to Florida in February, and DH already wants to bring his daughters - its going to cost us an arm and leg as it is (and we arent even going during the February vacation to save money!)
I can't imagine paying full price for a baby's ticket, but I guess if he is in a seat, then it makes sense - do people hold their babies on their laps? Is that even safe?
Please help me!
We are taking Jet Blue...

no - its when they hit 2 years old you have to. And make sure that one of your tickets say "with infant" on it so they have the correct count of ppl on the manifest.

No, most airlines charge you a percentage of the ticket and the taxes. For instance, I know BA charge you 10% of an adults full fare and all of the taxes.

No, babies don't get a seat. They sit on your lap usually. If you want a seat I believe you will have to pay full price

Correct...
From the Jet Blue Website - A child over three days old until their second birthday is considered a lap child and does not need to pay for a seat. JetBlue does not reserve a seat for these children unless a separate seat is purchased.
Once a child has their second birthday, they are no longer considered a lap child and a seat must be purchased in order for them to travel. If the child has their second birthday between the outbound and return flight, a seat will need to be purchased for the return flight.
Customers may be required to present the infant's passport to a JetBlue crewmember at the airport in order for the infant to fly. In additional to country-specific documentation requirements outlined below, infants between three and 14 days old must also have, in the form of a letter, their doctor's approval to travel.
Customers traveling with lap infants and departing from international destinations to the U.S. will be assessed a $12 infant fee. This fee applies to flights from the Dominican Republic, Bahamas, and Bermuda, and consists of the APHIS and INS taxes. This is a one-way fee and is not charged on flights to international destinations from the U.S.
· All infants/lap children must be booked at the airport where they will collect any required infant fee. · Lap infants must be traveling with an adult customer at least 13 years of age or older, and the infant must sit on the adult's lap during takeoff and landing. · Only one lap child per adult is allowed. Due to the number of oxygen masks per row, only one lap child is allowed per row of three seats. · A lap child may bring one diaper bag and one stroller and car seat. They do not qualify for the checked baggage allowance.
In additional to the above, regardless of nationality, children traveling with an adult other than a parent or legal guardian must have a notarized letter of authorization. Please refer to documentation required for the specific country.

Correct. If you want a seat, you have to pay for a seat. Unless there is one available, then you can use that one without paying, but we flew to Florida in July (who flies to Florida in JULY!??!) and we didn't get a seat for him. We are flying to Florida again for our cruise on New Year's Eve and we aren't buying him a seat and he will be 8 months.

We didn't have to buy one for Bella. You just pay the tax on the ticket. They will sit on your lap. But of course, you can buy a seat if you want.

Re: Do I buy a plane ticket for a 10 month old?
No you absolutely don't need to buy a ticket if they are under 2 - many people hold their babies for the flight. The baby will most likely not get a seat unless the plane is not full and there are extra seats available so expect to hold him.
Some people buy tickets for infants b/c they feel that with turbulence etc that it isn't safe to just hold them loosely on your lap b.c they are not belted in. If you are comfortable with that then there is no reason to buy a seat.
We bought DD a ticket for our trip next year to disney world b.c we didn't want to hold a 16 month old for the flight and felt she would be more comfortable in her car seat.
