Do I have to start saving for braces?
Sydney's top two teeth are coming in with a good size gap in between. Can I hope that when the permanent teeth come in she wont have the same gap?

No!!! All kids front teeth come in with a huge gap. It's kind of funny looking!
Caiden's were the same way and now he's almost 3 and they're almost completely next to each other. Don't worry... although I worried about the same thing as well!

Re: Do I have to start saving for braces?
My son's front teeth are like that. My daughter's, on the other hand, are perfectly spaced. Our dentist says that she is the one more likely to need braces because there's no room for the larger adult teeth. So, the space is good, I guess!

The gap is better. Adult teeth are bigger.

Actually, my friend who is a dental hygenist and works in an orthodonist office for like 10 years now says the more gaps the better.
My son's teeth are compacted actually, he has no gaps and all are growing pretty closely together.

Thanks! The importance of the gap makes sense.

Re: Do I have to start saving for braces?
Actually, as the other posts said, the more spaces the better. When there is little space in the primary teeth, the chances are there will be crowding, and some sort of ortho will be needed.
The funny part is that kids WANT braces these days

Re: Do I have to start saving for braces?
You want the spaces there!! My son has crowded teeth and when we went to the dentist he told us we don't have to start saving now but he will probably have baces later in lfe. Now my DD has the 2 front teeth crowded together but the 2 teeth next to each front toothhave a big gap. Thak god she's only 13 months or it might look really weird!

I agree with the other posts. The decidous teeth are space maintainers for the primary teeth. Spaces are good

Re: Do I have to start saving for braces?
I'm not sure if I had gaps or not when I was a baby, but my mouth is very compact now. I've had a total of 8 teeth pulled, and some of my teeth still overlap, so if gaps as an infant prevent that, enjoy the gaps!
