Do I really need to cut out caffeine?

I have read that you need to cut out caffeine in TTC. But I am a coffee addict!!!! Is this true or no?

I was told you can have 6oz of a caffeinated beverage per day. I switched to half caff coffee this week, so I can still have two cups - I am a coffee freak too and the half caff isn't bad.

Re: Do I really need to cut out caffeine?

I was told one cup a day is fine. I drink 16oz in the am, but will gladly give it up and can do so easily. Soda is going to be the challenge. DH and I dont bring it into t he house unless we are entertaining. Im learning to love water with lemon. Fun times.

I'm not really a big caffeine drinker. I usually have one cup of tea a day. I guess if you drink a lot you should cut some out.

I just started to drink the Nestle Pure Life water and I'm obsessed with it ( I normally HATE water) but I just realized that its sweetened with Splenda, so I need to find something else now, after I bought a huge pack of it at COSTCOChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Do I really need to cut out caffeine?

I drink one large cup of coffee or tea in the morning. I've switched to no caffeine diet soda too.

I think a small amount is fine.

I haven't... but I'm also not PG yet. I figure I won't change my life until I get that BFP! (But

Especially since you don't know how long it will take.

Re: Do I really need to cut out caffeine?

I drink only 1 cup in the morning, about 8oz does the trick. Sometimes I have Iced-Tea and that has caffeine in it too, but for the most part my Dr. said its ok.

I meant to add but I don't smoke (which I would cut out completely if I was a smoker and TTC)

For me personally, I make my own coffee everyday at home. Over the last few months, I have been slowly decreasing the amout of bean in the coffee so that when I stop, the withdrawl symptoms arent as bad.

Some people choose to conitnue to drink coffee through their pregnancy, but I am also a HUGE chocolate lover, so that is important to me as well. I dont want to drink coffee everyday, and eat chocolate.

Re: Do I really need to cut out caffeine?

I have one cup of coffee in the mornings, and usually just during the week when I get to work. My RE does not think this poses any problems.

Re: Do I really need to cut out caffeine?

while TTC i would say enjoy your caffeine... but wean yourself if you are a huge drinker as i was... i used to drink a pot a day - so when i got the surprise BFP, it was hard to cut down.

my doctor has told me up to two cups of home brewed (no starbucks) a day is acceptable...

enjoy it ladies!!!!!!!!!!

not sure about that one... starbucks coffee is MUCH higher in caffeine than your norm coffee - that's why the docs tell u to stay away from it.

I just checked what to expect - which my doctor has basically concurred with - for their acceptable limits on caffeine consumption....

Each cup of home brewed coffee has roughly 100 mg of caffeine. U are allowed up to 2 or so (depending on your doctor) cups per day. Consult with your doctor, but I would say that it's easier to start weaning now....

Just FYI - you can have Splenda. It is made from a sugar molecule, and it does not cross the placenta. Nutrasweet is a no-no, but Splenda is ok.

I don't think you need to. I guess it's easy for me to say, as I am not a coffee drinker, but if anything, maybe cut down slightly.
