Re: do they restrain your hands during a csection??

I was with my son, I'm hoping not to be this time though it's at the same place. I didn't ask not to because I didn't know what was going on to begin with. They didn't tell me they were going to. I don't know why they do though? Chat Icon

My arms were restrainted and they had some big cushions with warm air blowing to keep warm. I know there are different opinions on this, but I actually didnt mind it since I wouldnt of wanted the option of moving them at that stage and it was almost like a security. I had other complications during the c/s but Im sure once the baby is out you can request your hands free to touch/hold the baby.

I am pretty sure my hands were restrained. To be honest I don't remember every detail of the physical aspect. The emotional aspect is what I remember the most....

Re: do they restrain your hands during a csection??

yes, but it wasn't a big at all. The whole procedure was 20 minutes. I got to put my face next to his after they cleaned him up and I finally held him after being in the recovery room for an hour. I didn't even remember that my hands were restrained until I read your email.

I wasn't restrained for mine, it was an emergency c/s, I don't know if that makes a difference.

NO, they didn't for me. And I didn't even have to request it, they just didn't do it. I had a wonderful team of nurses at Winthrop, and of course, I love my doc. I just layed my hand on a table (that's the one that had the IV), and the other hand DH held. I don't see the big deal either way.

Re: do they restrain your hands during a csection??

No, they did not tie my hands down. Don't know if it has to do with emergency c-sections and planned ones.

Mine were restrained, but honestly I didn't mind - At least I know I wouldn't move and make the doctor jump or something!
