Painful, cracked skin on hands...need advice or suggestions.
With all the handwashing I do with the new baby at home my hands are a MESS. They are so cracked and bleeding and it hurts to even bend them. What kind of hand soap and hand cream do you use if you have a similar problem?

The same thing happened to me after I had my son.. I used the swiss ives (?) and the eucirin.. Both of them were the only ones that were soothing..
As silly as this sounds, but a cheap pair of cotton gloves and after your nighttime shower- lather up your hands with lotion, and put the gloves on. This helps the lotion be absorbed into the skin more. Whichever brand you try! Good LUCK!

I just had my son on Nov. 15 and I'm having the same exact issue. I've tried cocoa butter and vaseline but it hasn't helped too much.

I do use Eucerin with gloves at night but as soon as I wash my hands a few times in the morning....the cracking starts again. Grrr!

Eucerin is good, also from Avon Silicone Glove Hand Cream, also I don't know what type of soap you use but alot of them can be drying, I use light pump soaps from Bath and Body Works, I like the creamy ones

Vaseline is great!! I used to work in a kitchen and washed a lot of dishes - vaseline did the trick for me!

And if you don't have a pair on hand right away- white cotten socks work too!! haha Eucerin (not the lotion in the bottle the one in the tub) the the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had this problem really severe since I had Claire 11 months ago! I use Cephacil soap only and Eucerin and aquafor lotion

I love anything by burts bees. and Neutrogena hand cream (very thick...works great)
I keep it at work, handbag, and night stand and apply it all day! When really bad the gloves are great...but I pull them off in the middle of the night, can't stand them!

I just remembered that a friend of mine uses cow cream (the cream they use for cows' utters) and she swears by it. I have no idea where to get it though....

A friend of mine uses Bag Balm - originally made for cows udders. It comes in a green square jar. She used it every winter

Re: Painful, cracked skin on hands...need advice or suggestions.
My mother used to get cracked skin being a hair dresser. And I used to have really bad dry hands. My mom and I used vaseline with white COTTON gloves. (I'm sure you can find them in the beauty supply stores) Lather them up and put the gloves on when you go to bed. Hope I helped. Good luck!

Re: Painful, cracked skin on hands...need advice or suggestions.
I used to work for a dermatologist and they would say to use either Neutrogena Norweigan Hand Cream or Aquaphor. I love Aquaphor....it is made by Eucerin I think, it is a vaseline bade but it has other healing ingredients in it. It also works great on chapped lips.

parafin waxing really helps too...either stop by a nail salon for it, or buy one of them at bed bath and beyond (they're not expensive) it helps sooo much with cracked skin

Re: Painful, cracked skin on hands...need advice or suggestions.
My dermatologist suggested using just plain old oil. Cooking oil or Crisco she said will work the best b/c all of these lotions have too much water in them to work well. I have horrible dry feet in the winter and am nursing a cracked toe right now.
I should have followed the normal routine!
