Do we have any iPad owners yet?
Just wondering... And if so do we like it or not? The 3G model came out today....

A good friend of mine got one through his job. He likes it but still thinks it's basically an iPod Touch on steriods.
I think it has the potential to be something huge but for now it's just a glorified Touch.

Yeah, that's what I think too. My BF thinks its the coolest thing but it's not like it replaces anything.(PC/Laptop/iphone/itouch) Right now I just think its a cool gadget to have.

I have it and LOVE it. Ditto for my DH, we both got the wifi.
We both WANTED a giant ipod touch and that is EXACTLY what it is.
All we wanted it for was to go on the internet, watch movies, have our pictures & music on & play games and it's perfect for that and exactly what we wanted.
It does not replace a laptop or computer in any way and it not marketed to. It annoys me when people (who don't have them) 'complain' about the limitations of it, or tell me it’s stupid to get one… thank you for calling me stupid! I know exactly what it is and it’s perfect for MY needs & exactly what I wanted.
If you DON'T want a giant ipod touch, don't get it, it's not for you. If you want a laptop, don't get it, it's not for you. If you go on a lot of local small websites that are only flash enabled, don't get it, it's not for you. It does not support flash, BUT I have not found ONE website I couldn’t get on, almost all websites are enabled for mobile devices (which don’t support flash)

Hey Kara! Do they make a docking station for it? Kinda like the BOSE ones they have for the ipods and itouch? THAT would be awesome for movies!
I'm not a HUGE gadget person (although I LOVE my iphone) so I'm not super psyched about it. LOL
My BF on the other hand is like   over it.

I totally get what you're saying but I think the potential FOR it to become a replacement for a laptop is there.
For now, my only apprehension is the size of it. I like my touch for the portability of it. I can sit on the train and listen to my music or podcasts..but if I wanted to watch a movie I'd most likely go blind so I could see where the iPad could come into play. Also, reading a book, though I'm not sold on ebooks anyway - it's really a personal preference, I have a soft spot for print books, but I digress.
Anyway, I think you're right, people looked at this and thought it would be something more than just a big ol iPod Touch and really it isn't. If you're ok with that then word to ya mutha.

DH bought it the first day it came out. He loves it, but his main use for it is r books, watching tv shows & movies when traveling (longer battery life than his laptop) and for work/business (cataloging photos...showing clients his products, etc..) We can also use it as a large remote to control our AppleTVs (music/tv throughout the house), although I prefer my iPhone for that.
I initially was going to buy him the 3G for his birthday, but at the time he told me he didn't think he'd need or use the service. He's now decided he would most definitely benefit from that and is giving his iPad to his dad and replacing his with the 3G.
(FWIW, he also has an iPhone and a Macbook.)

A patient brought one in today. The whole staff swarmed him. I don't think I could justify another gadget to my wife right now. We're still having the "Kindle is a suckage of money, just go to the library for free" debate.

i have one and i love it. lots of fun to use etc. but i prefer my laptop when it comes to really typing emails, etc.
i love reading my books on it and looking at my digital photos-they look awesome on it.

so now that my DH has loaded some apps, I must say its pretty cool! He will be using it mostly to view documents & send emails for work.
I'm not convinced that its better than a small laptop for this but we'll see.
