Re: Do you allow your 2-year old to have candy?
i allow jack to have cookies like fig newtons or an oreo if he's been good. he doesnt get candy. i think 2x he's had a lollipop..once after a shot and once during his first hair cut b/c he was flipping out.
but regularly no. I have a hard enough time getting him to eat fruits/veggies. I cant get him on the sweet stuff.
Monday i was out walking and my neighbor and her 2 boys were with us. She stopped at 7-11 for her cigs and got her 3yr old a pack of m&ms. It wasn't even 9am and she was letting him eat it, and her other son who's not even 2. She asked if jack could have some and i said no, I dont give him that stuff (and if i did, it wouldnt be for breakfast either). She looked at me like I had ten heads. whatever..
if no candy is that your rule, then thats your rule and other people should respect it.

Ann doesn't have candy.
We recently let her have a LICK of a lollipop after a very bad experience at the doctor.

Re: Do you allow your 2-year old to have candy?
NO.. I have enough issues getting Mason to eat. He isn't a fan of food in general so I'm fine with the pureed veggies and he also eats other healthy meals. I do give him cookies, but they're usually organic or low sugar. Why introduce them to something so it becomes more of a fight

He has never had candy and he is turning 2 in a couple of weeks. I do give him 1 or 2 cookies a week.

Candy, ice cream, cake, cookies... all for special occasions. We don't really keep it in the house (we don't eat it often) so she'd never have it that often anyway. She never asks for it and loves her fruit as "dessert" so I figure why even offer her sweets if she doesn't care.
same here she is happy when she gets one M&M

Re: Do you allow your 2-year old to have candy?
DS is 15 months.
I don't even allow him sweet breads.
I agree... he will have candy in the future. No need to introduce it so early.
I do grapes instead. He LOVES grapes.

Re: Do you allow your 2-year old to have candy?
My older daughter had her 1st piece of candy around 3yo. We just generally don't have candy in the house. My younger daughter has had bites of chocolate a couple of times, but only b/c her sister is sometimes eating it. It'll prob be a while before she has a lollipop. She is 21months.

Re: Do you allow your 2-year old to have candy?
not really. he's had a lolipop I think twice in his life, not given by me. and he's had a twix while in dh's office and my SIL shared a mini milky way with him over the weekend.
I do however give him GOOD dark chocolate. like dark chocolate bark or chocolate covered pretzels from a chocolatier (Jacques Torres is a big favorite of his lol)
I think it's totally different than giving him skittles or a snickers bar. much less sugar, antioxidents etc.
maybe I am being two faced or snobby...but I don't care.
ETA: we do give him cake or cookies or ice cream whenever we have it. I bake a lot and he wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for Haagen Dazs. he is a great eater. it doesn't bother me.

Re: Do you allow your 2-year old to have candy?
I have never given my son a lollipop. Occassionally he has had bites of chocolate but not very often.
However, he loves cakes, cookies, brownies, etc. We definitely limit how much of those snacks he eats. Fortunately, he is a good eater so he eats plenty of healthy food.

Re: Do you allow your 2-year old to have candy?
Eh, 2 months ago, I would have said no. He is 2yrs-3mos old.
He only started eating candy around Halloween. Twix and M&Ms.
He doesn't like sticky things, so when the chocolate melts, he gets unhappy fast.
I shared a twix with him thinking he wouldn't eat it. He doesn't like to bite into foods. I was surprised and happy he bit into it. So now a Twix is special treat.
Now he might get a Twix or some Ms after dinner one night a week.
He wants nothing to do with lollipops (too sticky!!).

Re: Do you allow your 2-year old to have candy?
My DD is now almost 28 months, and shes had it all , chocolate , lolipops, gummibears.
My MIL first gave her a lolipop when she was about 17 months old - i was SOOOOOO mad!!!!!!!!!!!!
we give her everything in moderation. i use the lolipops as a reward or if we are at the airport to keep her occupied etc.

Re: Do you allow your 2-year old to have candy?
DS is almost 19 months and I have yet to give him candy - well, he has had fruit snacks once and a cookie a few times.
at his halloween daycare party, he has a small chocolate bar and it didnt bother me.
its the same with juice. I dont give it to him because he doesnt like it (will only drink water or milk) but I am not against it ... everything in moderation.
i see no reason to give it to him yet. maybe in the next few months as a treat.

Re: Do you allow your 2-year old to have candy?
It's quite rare. If he uses the potty he gets one jelly bean. Just one. I've given him an M&M, again just one. My family gave him candy corn but other than that I don't think he's had candy. I never gave him is Halloween candy either, just he pretzels.

Re: Do you allow your 2-year old to have candy?
With my first child I was pretty hardcore. No you are NOT allowed to give him candy! No candy in this house! Pretzels or fruit! (and they better be whole grain pretzels and organic fruit!!!) Of course as my DS got older and went to school, parties, playdates etc he was exposed to more cookies and candy and I let him have it.
With my second child, she's been exposed to junk food more seeing her older brother get treats, so I was far more relaxed with her. She likes cookies and chocolate candy for special treats, although we do avoid any chewy candies or fruit snacks for both kids simply because it's so bad for their teeth.
Anyway, my second child has ended up being a better, less picky, healthier eater overall than my first one, so all my effort to "shield" him from junk food was for nothing. I should have adopted a more relaxed philosophy the first time around!

Re: Do you allow your 2-year old to have candy?
Chocolate Yes...candy - limited to a lollipop on RARE occasions - ie he gets them at the Peds office and had one at halloween.
I was way more strict with my DD but its harder when the holder child is eating treats and the younger one asks for some.

Not 2 yet, but I do let her have sweets. Just not actually CANDY. Like I won't give her lollipops, anything sticky, a snickers bar, etc
She has had a hershey kiss or 2 and she eats cake, cookies, ice cream etc - in moderation.

Re: Do you allow your 2-year old to have candy?
I didn't at 2. I was worried about the choking hazard still of M&M type stuff. We had an impossible time getting him to brush his teeth, so I wasn't about to give him lollypops if he wasn't brushing.
Now, at 4, he still doesn't eat it, but it's more because he doesn't want it. I will offer on occasion at a birthday party, halloween, etc., but he isn't interested. Fine by me.

Re: Do you allow your 2-year old to have candy?
I dont think you should feel like you are doing something wrong for not giving your LO candy. I think its commendable! that being said, my DD is 2.5 and has candy about once a week...maybe a lollipop or a couple of m&ms. I am trying to not make a big deal out of candy or treats or whatever. I let her have them in moderation and for us it works fine. She is not crazy about them and can really take them or leave them which is fine by me. I have seen the limiting of them backfire for some children (not all and not saying it will backfire for yours, but I have seen it where a child is never allowed and when the parent is not around goes nuts...again NOT saying this happens to all children or yours or anybody on here, but I have seen it).

Re: Do you allow your 2-year old to have candy?
Full on candy like m n m's, skittles, twix? no, she's never had it and she's 21 months old.
She's had a bite of a chocolate bar, and occasionally she'll get a piece of a cookie. She's had 2 or 3 lollipops I think - but even then it's a few licks and that's it.
My older DD doesn't eat candy so it's not really an issue. Cookies, cakes and ice cream - yes, but not candy. I also believe everything in moderation.
