Do you bath your dog alone?

If so, how do you do it? Normally it takes both me and DH to bathe Molly - but I really don't want to wait till he gets home from work.

Any advice?

Re: Do you bath your dog alone?

Nope - but my dog is between 85-90 lbs - DH has to bathe her Chat Icon

My moms dog, I used to all the time. But it was soooo much easier at their house cause they had glass doors so he couldn't get out. He is a shiz-tzu (who the heck knows how to spell it.
I used to find it easier sometimes to put on shorts and stand in there with him Chat Icon

Slop sink..!

Ebony is 90 lbs and I only bathe him outside - I tether him with 2 leashes. He hates baths!

Re: Do you bath your dog alone?

well i just attempted that - it wasn't as bad as I thought - but it def. could have gone better. I didn't even get to give her a full on bath. My issue is really her tush. Looks like she has a piece of dried poop in her tush (sorry if TMI) and we tried to get at it last night but it seems to be in a spot that's hurting her bc she wimpers when we do it. I was hoping the bath would losen it up - it didn't work. When DH comes home tonight it looks like we will have to try again.

Thanks everyone! Jess - you rock! Chat Icon

Yes, in the begining it was hard because he's about 60lbs and I couldn't pick him up. But know we've trained him to hop in on his own, and I bought one of those hoses that attach to the showerhead. When he gets out he runs around like a mad man so I have to dry him off quickly.

Re: Do you bath your dog alone?

Bear is really good, well semi-good, when taking a bath. He hops in the tub and either me or my DH will give him a bath. He comes right out on his own and he stands still on our bath mat to be dried off. Then of course he runs around the house rubbing up against every piece of furniture, but while in the bath he is pretty good.

Re: Do you bath your dog alone?

I am so jealous of the ones who have pets who deal with it.

Molly ran around like a psycho path after so it was quite humorous but I still need to get at her somehow. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

After the bath, he gets towel dried for a few minutes but once we let go he runs around the house for a long time. Its soooo funny. Same thing week after week. Then when he calms down, we brush him then he passes out for at least an hour.

Re: Do you bath your dog alone?

My last dog used to hate baths, I needed help with him.

But My Barney actually likes to bathed, toweled off, and blow dried...thank goodness because I do not know how I would control 90lbs of madness, LOL

However in the summer I will bath him outside, and he loves to slide into the dirt afterwards, its freaking HYSTERICAL!!!!

Re: Do you bath your dog alone?

Oh god no. He is 97 pounds.

I usually wind up IN the tub with him to keep him calm. I get in my bathing suit and we tackle him and DH gets the front while I get the back.

I just don't understand why he loves sprinklers and hoses and pools so much but hates the bath.

He does LOVE being dried with the towels though. Chat Icon

This is how we used to bathe Gizmo when I lived with my mom.
Now, I don't have one of those sinks in my house, but we do have the shower head that comes off of the wall... it really helps when he wont stay still.
It takes about 15 minutes.
He is towel dried in the tub and then I let him out and he runs around like crazy.

Re: Do you bath your dog alone?

Um... thank the lord I have a walk in shower downstairs... so ME AND MY DOG get in the shower together.. ( I wear a bathing suit)... SHE IS 108 POUNDS! And I force her in there, shut the glass door and turn on the water... its definitely a scene and we are BOTH soaking wet by the end of it!! Then I let her out, DH dries her up with a big towel, and I usually clean the shower, then take one myself... LOLOLChat Icon

Re: Do you bath your dog alone?

I put Misty (60 pounds) in the bath and she pretty much just stands there with a miserable look on her face. Espresso does exactly the same thing, only I bathe him in the sink.

Re: Do you bath your dog alone?

No, me and DH do it together. He holds her better.

But Abby is good in the bath...I think because when we got her, the first thing we did was bring her home and give her an immediate bath. She probably thinks its how we show her love Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Do you bath your dog alone?

Sandy loves to get baths, she jumps in the tub and waits for me to wash her...sometimes she tries to jump out and she shakes all of her water on me but she is very good otherwise

Brooklyn and I get into the bath, DH waits with the towel and dryer.

If DH is not home, I have the towel prepared.

I do, I bathe Pyxie in the tub. She is pretty tame about it though. I don't need DH help until it comes time to shave her.

Re: Do you bath your dog alone?

yes, and she's 64 ponds and stubborn as anything I basically have to keep one hand on her at all times and it's not easy I usually wind up soaked and the bathroom gets a flood. Then she runs around like a lunatic for about 10 minutes afterwards getting everything damp.

I guess Katie is an oddball. She runs into the tub and can't wait to have her bath. Annie doesn't like it but she tolerates it.
