Do you buy Light/Fat Free grocery items?
DH went to the grocery store with me i i buy light or fat free for most items and he has been big into organic and all the toxic crap they put into food now and he started saying about how when you buy light food they add more toxins and such to make it light so i should not buy light and just get regular but im trying to lose weight (well after the baby comes but trying to eat not so badly) and stopping buying the light and fat free stuff will not help! Is that true about foods that are light adding stuff to it?

I purchase "reduced fat" "light" items like salad dressings, sour cream, whipped cream., Jello-O pudding, cheeses, crackers. Fat Free items have added sugars/preservitives for taste, you will have to check lables. I dont buy anything fat free.

Re: Do you buy Light/Fat Free grocery items?
No. They don't really taste good to me.
I know a lot of people on here read Hungrygirl.com but her grocery list makes me cringe with the amount of non-food foods that she lists.
I'm not a great eater - I love chips and those stupid zone bars and I love diet soda (way way bad, I know) - but eating whole foods and portion control are really the ways to go.

I try avoid processed food, so I especially avoid items that are "light" or "fat free". If I look at the ingredient list and there are things I can't tell you exactly what they are, I don't buy it. I especially avoid artificial sweeteners, I worry about their effects and I get nervous when I think about all of the diet coke I drank over the years.

My cholesterol was so high that I had switched to fat free dairy items. Otherwise, I don't like aspartame, and don't buy into the "light" products either.

If it's logical - they use part skim milk for mozzarella cheese - I will. Otherwise if it's b/c of partially hydrogenated oils or something else that is like that - I won't.

Exactly. I do buy low-fat dairy but that's about it.

I do not buy light or fat free products. I do not think they taste good and your Dh is right they add all types of stuff to them to improve the taste. I prefer to eat less of a whole food.

Never. I agree w your DH 100%, they add chemicals to all that stuff. I eat real food at all times, i do not eat diet foods. A lot of those diet foods create an addictive reaction in your body & you wind up hungrier than before. Eating a smaller portion of the real thing will satisfy you more & is so much healthier.

Ditto to this..
And also, you are pregnant, I would not be consuming any of that

I buy low-fat dairy products and choose the leanest cuts of meats and such, but I've really been cutting back on the other light/fat free stuff I used to buy for the reason your DH suggests.

I buy light or reduced fat. I think fat free stuff tastes gross (except skim milk). My preference is products is actually no sugar added or reduced sugar.

Re: Do you buy Light/Fat Free grocery items?
I only buy lowfat dairy items like part skim mozzarella and milk. I've found many items that are naturally low in calories and all natural (like, for salad dressings, Bolthouse Farms dressings taste awesome and are low cal/fat)

Sometimes, but they do not taste very good. Usually I stick with reduced fat.

Re: Do you buy Light/Fat Free grocery items?
Sometimes, but I recently watched a special on the news about how a lot of foods that are supposed to be "healthy" or "low fat" are actually WORSE for you because they have to add so much sugar substitutes and additives to make it taste better that it ends up being more unhealthy for you in the end.
Even turkey burgers...they said that many times they're made with the skin and everything from the turkey and it ends up being almost as bad for you as just eating a regular beef burger
