Re: Do you count Salsa as a serving of veggies?

I think if you eat at least a 1/2 a cup maybe it goes towards serving of veggies. I count tomato sauce as a veggie. Hummus I consider more protein (i'm vegetarian) than veggie but it certainly is a veggie ...

If it is homemade, fresh salsa, then yes, I consider it a veggie.

However, if it comes from a jar and is loaded with sodium, I kinda don't consider it to have the nutritional content that a veggies has to me.

Maybe I'm a veggie snob in a way...but jarred salsa just doesn't do it for me!

No, just like I wouldnt count ranch dip as a serving of calcium. How much would you have to eat to count it as a full serving of veggies?

I also dont count hummus or sauce as a serving. It never occured to me to do that. To me, that seems like "cheating"

I eat the hummus with carrot sticks, but I do consider hummus healthy since it basically just chickpeas & oil and does have protein.

For lunch I eat an organic Amy's frozen burrito ( dairy free) and I eat it with about 2 tablespoons of salsa ( from the jar) and was wonder about it since there are clearly chunks of tomato, onion and pepper in the salsa...
