Do you eat off the same plate as DC and share utensils?
My parents were over on Saturday and we were at a restaurant. Thomas practically begs for food from everyone's plate and my parents get such joy at giving him different foods to try now that he's eating table food. My mother and father were feeding him from there plate - rice, potatoes, etc. He loves everything!
Last night my mother called to make sure Thomas wasn't sick. I was like, no, WHY? She said because my father had diarreah and a fever of 101.1. They were both concerned that Thomas would have caught something from him. So now I'm so worried that he's going to get sick.
I, myself, don't usually use the same utensils as Thomas for fear of getting him sick. I don't feel sick now, but who knows what I'll come down with tomorrow! Even if I'm giving him a taste of cake from my plate and cut it from the side I haven't eaten from. I've never if wiped his pacifier with my own mouth after it's fallen to the floor as I've seen tons of parents do. My husband feeds Thomas off his plate too.
I'm not fanatical about dirt and germs in general though. Thomas is in daycare and who knows what he comes in contact with. I just feel so bad and I'm so worried he'll get sick and I feel terrible that I kind of got a tiny bit snippy with my mother and wanted to say, that's it - no more eating off the same plate (I didn't say anything). But they LOVE their grandson SO much and they weren't doing anything wrong...
Do you, DH, your parents share food/utensils with DC?
Thanks!

Yes, we share stuff. I figure, if we are kissing them constantly, and are always touching them and playing with them anyway, we all have the same germs.... separate utensils aren't going to prevent anything.
If DS wants my bottle of water, I just give him the rest of it, though. I draw my line at backwash.....

Re: Do you eat of the same plate as DC and share utensils?
No generally we don't BUT DD is milk allergic and we tend eat different foods.
However when I'm eating something we can share I try not to give her food that has touched my utensils or salvia. Besides the germ/sickness thing I remember reading somewhere that our salvia can cause decay or something in babies/toddlers.
Honestly I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but I don't want DD to learn to eat off other peoples plates (esp with with her allergy.)

We share stuff unless I have a cold sore. But that's only when we are out to eat. For the most part I have utensils for him so we use that.
I hope that Thomas doesn't get sick!!!

No. I did try his rice cereal after he was finished with it, but I used my own spoon. It's sooo sweet, what do they put in that stuff?
But I would never eat off his spoon while feeding him.
