Do you ever drive yourself crazy....

that you are making the right descison for your DC? Lately with this whole food thing I find myself doing that a lot. I just want what is right for him. I got the ped/my sister tell me one thing and then on come on here to my fellow mommies and most of you are doing it another way.

I am so confused. Chat Icon

I think motherhood is a constant guessing game. While I don't obsess over doing the right thing, it's one of the only times I find myself second guessing decisions.

I don't think there are any right or wrong answers. There are things that work for some babies & things that work for others. Go with your gut. It's usually right. You are the person who knows your baby best.Chat Icon

Just do what you think is right. Don't listen 100% to anyone... I have come to learn that the doctors are not always right.

oh and yes I do the same thing. I am officially crazy, I've just learned to accept it. Chat Icon

I definitely know what you mean

You have to do what you think is right

If you feel he has been fine with the things you are doing - then don't change anything.
If you feel the doctor is right - then go by that.
If you are unsure about what the doctor said - ask him/her

Re: Do you ever drive yourself crazy....

Of course I question, however, I never take anyone else's idea or solutions to heart. I use them as guidelines, but only I know my daughter, just like only YOU know your son. As much as pediatricians may know, they don't always have the answers. My first pediatrician NEVER figured out that Ava had reflux or a milk/soy allergy, I figured it out. Why? Because even at a few weeks old, I knew my baby better than anything, and I knew something wasn't right, even when the ped. told me she was fine.
At some point, I just stopped worrying as much. Infact, I would venture to say, I almost never worry about the choices I make for her. I have to trust myself taking care of her, or who else is there to trust? Of course there are things I question, but for the most part, I do the best I can, and I think I'm doing a pretty good job so far.
I had to make a conscious decision to not stress so much. Our babies pick up on that, and I truly think that Ava is so laid back because I am, too. And I was never a laid back kind of person.
There is nothing I can really say to make you trust yourself, but I have faith that you will reach that point on your ownChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I agree with Rachel and remind myself that I am doing the best that I can and everything I do, I do what I thought was best at the time

Re: Do you ever drive yourself crazy....

After we just finished putting lotion that DS is allergic to on his rash he was getting because he was allergic to the lotion, yes, we do often wonder if we are doing the right thing... Chat Icon I keep reminding DW and myself that our parents, and many parents of that generation (and now as well) do things much worse than we could ever do, or think of doing, and their kids turn out fine. As long as you are trying to do what you believe is in your DC's best interest, everything will be fine. Nobody can make the "right" decision every time, since all parents are human, and all DC are human. What is a contact rash in one baby, is a food allergy in another baby, is eczema in another baby, is sunburn in another, is Strep in another, etc..... there is never a "right" answer, just trying to do the best we can for our DC.

Re: Do you ever drive yourself crazy....

You see, I think about this a different way. I am just that egotistical to think that all decisions I make for my child are right! I do belive that all decisions I make for myself and my life are right! They have to be right as they are right at the time! I have made loads of big decisions in my life (as have lots of other people) and I always land on my feet, this is a good decision making tactic for me and my life!!!

Re: Do you ever drive yourself crazy....

yes, constantly. I have learned though that I do the best I can and that is all he needs from me. If I realize a better way of doing something I will try and see if it works. If so, great, we've learned something. I also remind myself often that I must be doing something right because he is such a happy baby and I know that I will always try my best to do right by him so that makes me feel better
