Do you give DC a bottle before bed?

DD is 6 months and she always gets a bottle right before bed. I heard this is a bad habit and is hard to break.

Should I not be doing this? or is it something I need to worry about when she's older.

If you are not giving DC a bottle before bed, what time is his/her last bottle and when is bed time?

Re: Do you give DC a bottle before bed?

I always nursed or gave a bottle before bed and my ds is able to go to sleep just fine now without it. As he got older he didn't depend on it to fall asleep. If he got his bottle earlier for some reason he was still able to get to sleep. How does she do for nap time? Is she able to fall asleep without a bottle? I wouldn't worry about it though, at least not at 6 months.

Grace falls asleep with either a bottle or breast every night. I have tried to get her to go to sleep without it but have been unsuccessful.

I feed my girls dinner around 5 and usually a bottle about 6 and then bedtime is 6:30-7. They never drink bottles in their crib. Before food i would give the last bottle 5 and then bedtime was usually 6:00pm.

At 6 months it is not a bad habit at all. With Jack I found that when we were on a regular eating schedule he naturally decreased the number of bottles he had a day. I think he had a bed time bottle untilhe was about one year old, when he transitioned completely to the cup and regular milk. Then he would drink his milk at meals.

I give Megan a bottle before bed. She used to fall asleep in my arms and I would put her down and that would be it. Now, she drinks the whole bottle and I put her in the crib awake. Since shes trying to pull up and moving all over the place, she does that for a while and then tires herself out. I think she can take it or leave it but this is just our schedule.

Re: Do you give DC a bottle before bed?

I've never heard of it being bad to give a child a bottle BEFORE bed. It's bad to give them a bottle while they are IN bed though.

Re: Do you give DC a bottle before bed?

I would think you would want to give your baby a bottle before bed b/c that is what keeps them full through the night. Why would it be a bad habit?

This is the only way we can get Lily to go to bed. I've heard it's not a good idea too, but I don't know any other way. It's been working so well lately.

DD gets her bottle 15-30 mins before bed. I don't let her fall asleep on it though.

DS will take a bottle around 6 or 7 and sometimes that will be it for the night. Other times he may take a few ozs before bed.

Re: Do you give DC a bottle before bed?

No, she gets her bottle at least 2 hours before bed.
I have heard its not good either, mainly for their teeth. If you give them a bottle before they go to sleep you have to brush/wipe thier teeth to avoid decay. If you can do that, great, but for most its difficult to do that without waking up the baby.

Thanks ladies!!

I think it helps her get through the night and it relaxes her.

How does she do for nap time? Is she able to fall asleep without a bottle?

Honestly my DD doesn't nap. She takes 20 minute cat naps thoughout the day.

She doesn't fall asleep with the bottle now. She gets it and will get sleepy, but the second I put her in the crib she's wide awake. She plays for 15 - 20 minutes and then falls asleep on her own.

same her. Even if she falls asleep at the end of her bottle, one burp and she's awake.

Re: Do you give DC a bottle before bed?

I don't think it will cause a problem. DD is 13 months old and still has her bottle before bed, although we can just put her to bed without one, we have done that before. I'm trying to get her to take milk from a sippy cup so once that is done, no more milk at night before bed.
