My oldest did nto have candy until he was 3 even on Halloween, but my youngest is two and has had m&ms since before her second birthday, lollipops since a blood test that she had when she was about 18 months and tried bits of other things. Its harder with #2.

DS has everything in moderation. i won't let him have anything i think he can choke on (like a peanut m&m).

lollipops are a special treat that he LOVES!

Re: Do you give your 2 year old candy?

if its a birthday party, halloween or any other special occasion, i will allow my kids to have it...and of course its monitored, one or 2 pieces tops.
In my opinion, i feel its ok once in a while, because i think everything should be in moderation. I do not buy junk foods or candy and keep them in my cabinets on a regular basis, we always have some kind of party or something going on once or twice a month so thats enough exposure for them!

Kitkats...He doesnt seem to understand what other candy is...he tried kit kats once and they are a very special treat now.

Am I the only one who refuses to let their kids have lollipops? I am deathly afraid ( Noahs a wee bit different though with eating habits I admit)..That he will choke on it. All I can remember is being a kid and the lollipop coming off the stick in my mouth so many times and I am so afraid of that. I fear he may never have a lollipop b/c of my own fears of it. I saw a little girl barely walking wobbling with a dum dum lollipop in the bank the other day, she kinda fell down 3-4 times and I almost had a heart attack over it Chat Icon

Very very rarely. She had a few on Halloween and I honestly can't think of any other time before or after that.

Re: Do you give your 2 year old candy?

No candy here.

We had chocking/feeding issues in the first place so we really did not push it.

He had a few bites of 2 musketeers and he likes it. But that's it!

He tried lollipop with DH but again that was at Halloween.

We don't have candy at the house so my default EJ is not getting any.

Re: Do you give your 2 year old candy?

once in a blue moon-unless u count Lovely santa that handed out a candy cane.
This past Halloween that is it.
I also allow nothing that sticks to the teeth from Halloween.
They r allowed to eat what they want on Halloween then the rules r it gets tossed.
I did the same with my older 2.

You are not alone....

DH refuses to allow the kids to have lollipops. I dont feel strongly enough about them Chat Icon to argue with him over it....

My daughter Alexis once choked on a Lifesaver, albeit briefly, she was fine within seconds, it scared the bejesus out of me....I still prefer them not to have hard candy and they are almost 11...I will not allow it in the house at all.

Yes. My SIL with 4 kids introduced him and now he's obsessed with lollipops. I do resort to them when I am running errands but SOOOOO wish he didnt know what they were bc I dont like it.

I dont give him candy...i am a mean mean momma

Same here Chat Icon Though in my defense, she wouldn't eat it anyway. My girl eats NO sweets whatsoever besides one particular kind of Italian cookie we get from the bakery every week after her gymnastics class. Nothing else, by her own choice. I could be eating a brownie, candy, other cookies and she'll ask what it is but then says "I don't want any" Chat Icon before I can even offer it to her. Even if some of her little friends are eating candy or lollipops she has no interest.

It's par for the course, she doesn't try ANY new food, thankfully it works in our favor for sweets too Chat Icon

ETA: On Halloween, we walked around wiht a group of people....they all though I was scrooge b/c she didn't go collect any candy. But I KNEW she wouldn't eat it and I didn't want it in my house for me to eat Chat Icon

See I feel the same way and Kaitlyn never had eating issues I would probably be completely paranoid if she did but my issues is that she never sits still so I worry about her biting it off or trying to walk around and eat a lollipop and to me that seems like a choking hazard. I guess I'm very cautious with her - but that is partly b.c my ped is always talking about choking hazards - no teething biscuits when she was a baby etc, no peanut butter until 2 b.c it is a choking hazard.

No candy. He won't eat most foods. I don't think he would even take the candy if I offered it, but I am also afraid that he will want to eat even less of the few things he eats now if he starts eating sweets.

Re: Do you give your 2 year old candy?

yes, miki has some candy every now and then, not everyday but I do not deny her sweets either, as long as she is eating the healthy stuff too, I see no problem in giving her a treat Chat Icon

Re: Do you give your 2 year old candy?

I've never made a big deal about candy, cake, cookies, etc. If my DD had asked (she's 4 now but had it at 2) I let her have it and to this day she eats a little and leaves the rest. She never finishes a piece of cake, bag of M&M's etc.
I don't know if this will work with my son but we'll see. I like that it's not a big deal in our house.
