DH and I aren't taking any classes. Do we get to go on a tour? Do we call them? Do they contact us? Chat Icon I'm delivering at St. Charles, if that matters.

I am delivering at Winthrop and did not take any classes.

They offer a free orientation and a hospital tour.

I am glad I took the orientation class (where to go, park, registration, etc.). I was a bit disappointed with the tour.

But now, I know where everything is and don't feel as overwhelmed for when the time comes and you don't know where to go and you are in labor.

You probably should call them and see what they offer.

Im delivering at Huntington BUT had considered other area hospitals..St Catherines or St Charles to be specific...(I chose to stay at Huntington b/c I want my tubes tied and its my general understanding that I cant have that done at a Catholic Hospital)..anyway..I was going to go on a tour just so I knew where I was going when the time came.

My neighbor just gave birth at St Charles and the place was nice and quite and not a zoo...so even if you dont go on a tour Im sure you will find everything easily...Some of the larger hospitals can be confusing. I didnt find this about St Charles though.

I hope to be able to have a tour. I am having a C-section. I heard there are classes for me, too!

I'm also wondering this. I don't plan on really taking any courses other than a BF one and I know my way around NSUH Manhasset pretty well after my nephews were there for 4 weeks....I guess my answer is probably no even though curiousity has me wondering.

we took at 28 week class at the hospital that included a tour. it was very helpful. we're not taking any formal childbirth classes but we are watching the 'laugh and learn' dvd which has been great.

We're delivering at St. Charles. We didn't take Lamaze through them, which did include a tour. We scheduled a tour with them. Call their Family Education Department at 474-3700, you can sign up there...the brochure I have says they give tours Tuesday evenings every other month at 8pm or 9pm. I believe we went on a Tuesday at 9pm with several other couples. It was very informative.

When you call, you may have to leave a message, but they always call back, and they should send you a brochure of all their classes. They're always very helpful!

We went on the tour at 33 weeks. I thought it was helpful knowing the procedures - instead of going to emergency, head to admitting, etc.

We called & set up a tour w/ the hospital we're delivering at, as we're taking classes at a different hospital.

We went on a tour mainly because it was a new hospital that neither of us had ever been to, we didn't even know the floor! Also, it's been 6 years...sometimes you gain new info and there are new tests and procedures out now, it's good to know what they are.Chat Icon

I delivered at Huntington and was able to take the tour even though I didnt take any classes there. It was just helpful to see where everything was.
