Do you have a best friend?

I've had the same best friend since I was about 10. We went to school together through high school and have stayed very close. We were each others' maids of honor and are each other's kids' godmothers. We have other friends, obviously (some overlap) but there is never a question to anyone that she and I are a matched set. She truly is a sister and not just a friend.

Just wondering how common this is. As I've gotten older I feel like I've only found a handful of other people this rings true for.

So how about you? Do you have someone you would consider a best friend (who isn't a relative)? How long have you been friends and how'd you meet?

Yes, I have 5 people outside of my DH who I would call best friends. 2 girls from Childhood. We have been friends since 4th grade, the two girls and I. The other two guys and I have been friends since HS and we are inseparable. I call them just like I would a girlfriend with anything that is going on. Then my neighbor growing up, weve been friends since we were 5, and are still very very close.

For all of them, sometimes life gets in the way and we can go a while without talking or seeing one another, but the second we get back together its like no time has passed at all. We will always be there for one another, no matter what.

Of them, one of the girls is the clear front runner though, we were MOH at each others weddings and out of all of them, she is hands down the first person I call and vice versa when you need a BF for something.

I know you said no relatives but for the past 20 years DH has been my best friend. Before that I had two "best" friends. One of them we have grown apart because I live in a different country now and the other one we pick up where we left off when we meet but due to us living thousands of miles away from each other our relationship has definitely changed.

Now i have mom friends and thats how I refer to them. I don't tell them deep soul secrets - its more like day to day stuff. I wish sometimes that I still lived in my country of birth so that I would have maintained my childhood best friendships but life changes.

I think its harder as you get older to make a new "best" friend.

Its funny you brought this up though as my 7 year old was in the back of my car the other day with another friend of his and his friend mentioned another mutual friend of theirs and said "he is my best friend" in pure innocence but I could see my DS's face in the back of the car and I think his heart hurt a little. SO i am trying hard to teach my kids to be friends with a wider range of friends and obviously they will lean more towards one or two of those but to be mindful to not alienate maybe a third wheel by making a "best" friend!

I have my best friend from when I was 6. So almost 34 years now. Lived across the street. Played every day. Had our first kiss on the same day. Went to elementary, Jr high and HS together. Then worked for the same company for many years. Were each other's maid of honors and I am godmother to her first born. We are each other's other half. I know I'm Very lucky to have her.

I also have very close friends Ive made as an adult. Some through DH, some on my own.

Yes. We have known each other since we were 6. Been my best friend I'd say since 12/13 so about 25 years.

Yes I have 2.
1 since I was 13. I am.godmother tof her son.
And the other since about 5 yrs ago.
I can tell them.anything and everything. And they have 2 different was of responding. And I love it

Yes. I've known her since kindergarten but we became BFFs in 9th grade.

I am also super tight with 7 of my college roommates.

Besides my DH, nope. I have friends who are closer than others and one who is my "best friend" of the friends I have, but nothing like how you described.

Aside from DH, no.

I have friends that I am close with, that we can depend on each other during good and bad, and I have friends that are just acquaintances.
I'n not as close with my sister as I wish I were.

Yes. I have two. One of them we've been friends since we were about 3 and the other one since kindergarten. We are now all Amost 43 years old so they are like sisters to me.

Yes, since we've been 4. We met in Kindergarten and have been close ever since. I never had sisters growing up, so her and her sisters are the closest thing to that

My DH. We've been together since we're 16 and we've always been extremely close. He's really the only person I'd consider my best friend. Nobody knows me better!

I have a few girls who I consider very good friends. One I've been friends with since 6th grade. The others I've been friends with since I was a freshmen in college. I used to live near them and would hang out with them all the time. I now live 3 hours away so I don't see them as much.

My very best friend though is my sister. We're 18 months apart and even went away to same college and joined the same sorority. We have kids the same age too so we've always been in similar spots in our lives.

I do. We don't get to see each other or talk as much as I'd like though. We met in college.

I also consider my sister a best friend.

Yes. 2 best friends since middle school. I couldn't imagine not having them in my life. We talk all the time, go out together as families and we do girl's nights too. Love them!

I also have a best friend who I was roommates with about 13 years ago in Hoboken in my young 20's. We met looking for a roommate and clicked immediately.

DH is definitely my best friend too, but I love my girl's! I tell them they save me money on therapy. LOL!

I have a lot of very close girl friends too. Most I met recently through the kids first and we get together a lot.

I don't personally like the term "best friend"; to clarify, I don't find it odd that other people use it. I just won't really use it anymore.

I have one friend who is very much like a sister; our families have become close too, and we have known each other for 26 years. I have many other close girl and guy friends too.

I've only had a best friend as a kid. Then we drifted apart. Now as an an adult, I do not.

Do you have a best friend?

Yes. My BFF has been with me since we met in first grade. I then have another group of 4 girls who I am also very close with. I am lucky to have them all.

Yes, my best friend M. I've known him since I was 11. He lives abroad but whenever we see each other, it always picks back up. We speak weekly. I have another, A, who I've known since I was 15. We sometimes argue and stuff but I know no matter what, I can call her and she would be there (and vice versa).

Aside from my 3 amazing family member best friends (DH, my younger sister and my mom), I am blessed to have 3 wonderful women in my life who are my best friends.

We've known each other over 30 years now. We've all been through so much together: marriages, divorces, children, fertility struggles, loss of a parent, remarriages, etc....

We all live in different states now, but we do a girls weekend every single year without fail (last weekend in March every year). I would be absolutely lost without them.
