Do you have a gun license?
Just wondering. I did a shooting simulator today with automatic weapons (real weapons, but without live ammo) and I was wondering who has a gun license.
I’m totally against guns, and I do not believe in the 2nd amendment, but when the MG3 automatic machine gun was shown, I was very intrigued. I didn’t try it out because of the way it hurts your shoulder. I tried the other machine guns out. The automatic function was interesting.
Edit: This is part of my training and I had to do it. It’s never a boring day at my job.

I do not and I have no desire to. I'm not a fan of guns.
We have one due to DH's job- and I guess I feel safer just in case God forbid of someone breaking in etc - and DH is well trained in using it.
However I wouldn't trust myself with one. I prefer to leave it to the trained professionals.

No.
I grew up in a “cop” family so I grew up with a gun in my house. Even if there was an intruder, it was locked in a safe and was not easy to access. Having a gun in my house never made me feel safe. My dad scared the sh!t out of us so none of us would even think about going near it even if we could’ve gotten to it.

DH does. I grew up in a law enforcement family, and they were in the house in a safe and secure location. From an early age, my siblings and I were taught to respect guns and never to touch them.
I firmly believe in the 2nd amendment, but don't care if DH has a gun or not. It's locked up 99.99% of the time, and he is well-trained in using it.

My dad was a cop also so I grew up with a gun in the house. It was never locked up. It was either on top of the refrigerator or on his nightstand. We knew not to touch it unless we asked. I definitely felt safer with my dad in the house, not necessarily because of the gun but because cops have a different mentality - we came home to a robbery in progress at my house once and my dad ran in, gun out. If that were to happen now my DH would stay in the car with us and we would call the police!
Anyway we would never have a gun now. My husband is in finance, not law enforcement. There is no reason for us to have a gun. I'm actually really against guns for people not in the armed services or law enforcement. We need stricter gun control laws in this country.

No. Not a fan of guns in my house, but I do enjoy shooting. I shoot .22s and shotguns as much as I can with Scouts. My kids have been shooting rifles since they were 13 or so. My daughter is almost as good as I am.

Yup. DH and I both do. DH is former military and he grew up around firearms.
Once I became comfortable around firearms they became much less intimidating. Being “totally against guns” is a very common stance but I find it completely ludicrous. Especially when you learn how firearms are actually operated.

Same here. DH and I both took a course with a guy who taught us everything from handling to cleaning it. It made us feel more comfortable.
It is locked up , and only my fingerprint of DH's finger can open it.

I have a similar story about my mom and I coming home to a robbery in progress. However, she was not a cop, just a crazy feisty lady. She told me to hide under the bed in her room, grabbed her gun and chased them out. When I think of all the scenarios that could have gone left. 
So although I grew up with guns in the house by non professionally trained crazy folks, I do not or will not have a gun. My DH although he looks intimidating and is electrician, is a big softy and is against them in the house. He does like to go to the shooting range with his brothers and elder son.

Yeah we had an incident in my house when I was pregnant with my third with intruders. It's way too long to type but if we had had a gun my husband or another person would have been shot and it was a complete misuderstanding. So that solidified it for me. An accident like that is way more likely to happen than you actually needing to protect yourself with a gun.

For me it's not about knowing how to operate a gun or be comfortable with it. It's the training that goes along with being in a dangerous situation and how you handle the use of a gun in that situation. It's less about guns and more about the people behind the gun. And then it's also about the fact that no matter how secure you think your weapon is, most kids can get around that.

My dad has been retired from the police department for 15 years. Last year someone robbed a TD bank when he was inside and my dad pursued the robber on foot for over a mile and tackled him to the ground. My dad is over 65. WTH was my dad thinking. After the fact, he said maybe it wasn’t his greatest idea. You think?!?!

Yes, this. The simulators in the Army are used to help with handling the guns in certain situations.
At first I didn’t want to go near them in a class I had to give to explain the words in English. The lesson plan (not the simulator) I first did was to have the soldiers explain to me in English the parts and what they did and how to put the gun together. I got totally freaked out and the soldiers understood that.
But the simulator was different. The interesting thing was the instructor said most Americans just want to go full Rambo. And I guess I was one of them to try out the automatic function. But no live ammo, so that was good. But it really made me think how different the gun laws are. But this was at work on a military base. I just needed to learn certain things. I got to sit in a tank last year and that was fun to see how that works.
At the moment, the base environment is a bit different now because of the war. I can’t really get into here, but you can google for info.

I don't have a license but i know how to handle a rifle and actual like going shooting. I'm actually better at it then my DH. Our kids have gone shooting as well (with assistance). I think Northerners just have a different view on guns.
Alot of my friends and family live down south and own guns and carry daily (men and women) and never have issues. It is only the criminals who should not have a gun that cause problems.

Yes I am sure there is some negligence involved but even the best of parents have moments of bad judgement, which is why I personally would never have a gun in my house or allow my child to go to a home in which I knew there was a firearm present (the exception being one of the parents is in law enforcement or the armed forces). And the other 80% of gun accidents which involve adults probably have many cases where the victim is not the person that was negligent with the gun.
Let's be real, people are stupid and people do stupid things. I guess my opinion is that I'd personally rather not allow all those idiots to be able to have a gun even if it's at the expense of the responsible people having one. Just my opinion.

Also, I was disagreeing with only criminals having guns that causes problems. To think that the only problems with guns are caused by criminals eliminates every accidental shooting being a "problem."
