we have a small 2 bedroom apt. the smoke detector is in the hall way right between our rooms. Its very sensitive, and goes off whenever I'm cooking dinner in the kitchen

ABSOLUTELY!!!!
I still have my combo Smoke-CO2 one from NY even though in TX we dont have gas you never know.
House came with one and I still have ours in her room sitting on a high shelf... ya know.. just in case

Yes, we have combo smoke/CO2 detectors in their rooms and we just replaced them since they were 5 years old.
I think it's Nassau County code now that there must be a smoke detector in bedrooms.
We also have a detector that is tied into our alarm system in the hall right outside their bedrooms.

Yes. We had to re-do all electrical work on our house when we bought it 2 years ago... It is now the law to have a smoke detector outside of or in every bedroom.

Same here. Every bedroom, and 3 in the hallway (over 50' hallway), plus almost every other room in the house, and a few in the basement. All wired together.
