Do you know about getting a private room at North Shore?
My hospital stay last weekend, the nurses were great but my roomates were  I started off alone and was so happy. At 10:00 they wheeled in a girl and her husband. They spoke in Spanish all night long LOUD, she went from moaning to crying all night. The next morning her lovely husband kept peeking around my curtain. Then we got another girl and both of them had to do urine collections so their pee containers were always in the toilet! Then they each had like 5 visitors all going into the bathroom. Needless to say if I can I would like my own room....did anyone get one?

Which NS? I delivered at NSP last pregnancy and I got private room.. the lady brought my to my room at about 1am and said "well we only have a private room, is that okay?".. is that okay.. HEL L YEAH!! my own bathroom which is what i want.. I think its a hit or miss kinda thing, if its available you can get it. Otherwise its 2 in 1 room and 2 rooms share 1 bathroom.. I find that to be the stupid concept when they designed it.. they really should just have done 1 bathroom to room.
Im delivering at NSP again and  I get my own room again. I was admitted a month early with last pregnancy and had to stay for 5 days and shared with others and it was disgusting.. blood everywhere.

Not sure about manhasset, my sister delivered their twice and both time had to share a room.

I delivered at LIJ both times, but I believe it's the same deal with North Shore...
You need to request the private room directly AFTER you give birth. They're on a first come/first served basis. And they cost approximately $500/night!!  Of course, the spoiled brat I am...I bucked up for the private room twice. Of course, my DH kicked me out of the hospital after 3 nights (as opposed to 4) the second time, but that's a different story  ...

I didnt get charge any extra cost for private room with North Shore Plainview.

i go for pre-op testing on wednesday so i will ask them then. to have a private room after a c section would be heaven to me!

Me personally, I would make a stink. Visigtors are NOT supposed to use the patient bathroom in the room. The nurses better be prepared for me,I will complain about my roommates if they have too many visitors and if the bathrooms are dirty, and if the visitors use MY restroom.
I am going to try to get a private room when I deliver, and if they can't accomodate me, I will annoy the heck out of them if unacceptable behavior goes on while I am trying to recover.

YUCK - did you say anything to the nurses? Visitors are not supposed to use the patients bathrooms and if the husband was staying over that is the nurses place to tell them they have to leave.
Sorry you went thru that - I have heard a lot of stories like that about NSUH.

Sorry you went thru that - I have heard a lot of stories like that about NSUH.
when i had ds, i had to ask my roommate if she minded tha my husband stay, and of course she was gracious and said she didn't mind..she knew i had the surgery and i would need to get up during the night for the bathroom and needed help. this time it was ridiculous! i am definately not being shy to speak up this time around if it happens again

a friend of mine recently delivered at north shore and had a private room. it was around 5 or 700 a night i'm not sure and included her meals- she got to pick from a special menu! It was really cool!

I know - That was one of several reasons I decided to deliver again at Columbia Presbyterian rather than NSUH which is SO much closer - they charge $400 TOTAL for your entire stay and you get your own separate bathroom with no one sharing it.

I would be out of there the next day if I had to share a room All the maternity wards by me are private rooms only. The worst case senario if they are full is they put you in a regular room with an extra bed but still no roomate. I had to share a room when my DD was in the hospital with another baby and her mother and that just grossed me out when I went to use the bathroom
You poor Mommies!  $500 a night for a private room!!!

They can't charge you for a private room if you didn't request one and got it b/c they had no semi private rooms available. I call that lucky!!
